Holiday Inn Club Vacations Fox River Resort at Sheridan, an IHG Hotel — Hotel in Mission Township

I have to admit that I was slightly reluctant to book my trip for 3 nights at this resort based on some of the recent negative reviews. However, the price was right, and the last-minute availability worked out with my schedule. The first thing I was worried about - no elevator. I traveled with my wife, a 4 year old, and a 1 year old. I was dreading my room assignment. First reaction upon checking in - great customer service. Super friendly and informative, lobby was very clean. When we got to the building, I saw there was an elevator! I don't think every building has one, so my advice would be to ASK BEFORE BOOKING if you need one. We stayed in the President suites(I think that's what they're called). Well worth the extra money. Fantastic rooms. We got a 2 King bed suite. It was literally this awesome suite with full kitchen that included pots pans dishes dishwasher pods, paper towels etc etc etc, nice big tub, separate standing shower with 2 shower heads ;) balcony. Oh and a whole separate suite that was connected with its own smaller kitchen, private bathroom and bedroom. Ours also had a washer/dryer that came with detergent packs. I was blown away. My only complaint with the room is the couches in the living room were a little dated and not the most comfortable.

After checking in, we drove up to Sheridan(this place is really in Norway). The Norway Store was closed, and we needed groceries for cooking. The store in Sheridan had everything we needed. What we didn't know, is that there is a small marketplace at the water park that is open even when the water park isn't. It has many of the essentials, and I would check there first. Speaking of the water park...it's currently open F-M ONLY. Ask over the phone before booking, or you may be disappointed if the hours and days don't fit your schedule! We did the water park one day, and it was great for all ages! We also rented a paddleboat which was $6 for a 4-person boat. Under 2 not allowed. If you have kids, check out the activity center, lots of fun things for them to do. You can rent DVDs from there for free as well. Older kids and adults can horseback ride on the property, 9 hole golf course, fishing, mini golf, indoor pool outdoor pool...they really have it all. Not a whole lot of food options, but we cooked. You can order decent food and pizza from Francescas as well. Look it up. Anyway, just do your research. I will definitely be back. Oh, and remember this is a timeshare property. They'll try to get you to attend a presentation in return for a gift card. I didn't want to put my little one through it,...

We are staying here right now for Springbreak bc it was the closest resort to family that lives in Chicago area and we all meet up here to stay together. We have been to many really nice H-Inn resorts bc my in-laws have points they get every year for them. This resort is not a great one! First we thought the Waterpark was included and it's not point holders get in for $20 a person and non point holders get in for $30. Secong it not open on Tuesday or Wednesday! Third the first day we tried to go we had to be put on a waiting list bc it was already to packed to get in. It was okay after finally getting in but very small space and everyone was literally on top of everyone! Also you don't pay to get in once! You have to pay that price every time you go! It should be a one time fee while you stay at the resort! They should have time slots and limits on how long people stay inside there to be fair for everyone. The indoor pool was free but it wasn't anything special and looked like a high school gym pool but really big and kind of creepy looking. The play grounds are just plain Jane playgrounds. The tennis court doesn't even have a net, they did have a volleyball area we saw today with a net! They show movies in the little theater in the office building area but by appointment only bc it's only your family in there at one time which was nice but they screen is only a 55ish inch TV and 13 chairs in the room....in here now....they only give you popcorn but no drinks to go with it.....not even bottled water! The movie was free. They do have boardgames that you can rent out for free. They have an arcade room but it's not worth the money to even play any of the games! Most of the claw type games barely have anything in them to get. The is one pool table and its not great either its next to the arcade room. Then they have what they call a lake but it looks like a oversized pond with a small dock to fish in. Yep just don't get your hopes up on things to do! We did play putt putt golf earlier but it was just a plain Jane one.....looked like it had seen better days! So much wasted space on the property that looks like they could do more with but idk maybe they don't make that much money here or something idk? They rooms are just regular rooms nothing special. Also you are fairly far away from most stores as well. All in all we are surviving it and we are with family which is what the main point was but we did get spoiled from the other resorts that we have been too that are so much better than this one! Hope this helps people out that are looking...

We first checked into the room right by the pond. The view was nice, and we had a first-floor "walk-in" room. One of the toilets wasn't flushing, and a towel bar fell off of the wall. We saw a couple of Japanese beetles, not a big deal. All of these things I think are reasonable and the hotel staff was gladly accommodating. When we came back from the pool, there were probably a hundred beetles all over the room. My wife vacuumed them all up, but within minutes, there were another couple dozen coming through the windows. At that point, we requested to change rooms. They gave us another walk-in room on the other side of the resort. This one was a little nicer, and we only saw a handful of beetles over the next 2 days.

The hotel pool was an absolute madhouse. There were a ton of people in there, and it was extremely loud and disgustingly humid.

I'm sure with a little more research, we would have found that the water park was not included in the hotel stay. We didn't realize they had a daily rate, so that was a bummer, but we made the most of it. We were there mid-April, so outdoor pools had not opened yet, and they were BUSY. There were a couple of big slides, but most of the waterpark is designed for younger children. Our kiddos are 9 months, 3, 10, 14, and 20. They all had a good time, but it was very stressful for us as parents. There were kids running around pushing each other, cutting at the top of the slides, trying to climb up the slides, colliding at the bottom. Very unsafe. Naturally, our toddler wanted to go down the slides, so I went down a couple with him to keep him safe. I was told that I could not do that because they were "for little kids only." For a while after that I just waited for him at the bottom to help him get out, but that meant he had to climb up the stairs and find his way through the chaos on his own (which he did gladly). After witnessing multiple collisions in the bottom of the one slide, I stopped one of the life guards to let her know what was happening, and she was very dismissive and rude. It's not my job to keep other children safe at the waterpark. It's literally yours. I'm sure it's probably really overwhelming when it's busy, but she was literally standing around talking with another guard. I'm just a concerned parent reporting unsafe behavior. After that very brief and abrasive conversation, nothing was done, and our little guy was in one of those collisions and bit his tongue.

All that being said, we won't be back, and I would not recommend taking small children to...
