An email sent at 10:34 pm on March 31 in response to a welcome email from Claes Landberg, the Hudson General Manager.
Check in was fine. Our room was fine except for the fact that just sitting on the bed made it squeak loudly, on both sides. It took 20 minutes for Robert to arrange another room. So we just had to wait which was frankly way too long. Our next room he promised us was an upgrade. Well it is bigger but is very badly laid out. The other room had a proper walk in shower, this one has a bath with a shower head. The entrance to the room is so narrow that the door handle crashes into the wall which has a big hole in it. More importantly there are only 2 outlets. One is behind the bed and the other in the narrow entrance passage. The desk is at the foot of the bed and so the cable to my computer is a permanent hazard. There is no bedside clock either.
While we were waiting for our new room I looked at the hotel amenities on the TV. We decided to eat later at the burger restaurant. Unami?? We got back to the hotel only to find it was closed and being remodeled. Why do you promote a service that isn’t available? Why do you not tell guests when they arrive?
Finally, having eaten out we came back looking forward to a drink in the bar. Imagine my surprise when I was told that I could not be served a Bloody Mary. No tomato juice. Apparently all part of the refurbishment.
This is our second visit to The Hudson. It will be our last.

There has been no reply at all, but in the meantime here are some comments on the rest of our stay.
Room 2. In the morning the toilet became blocked and not because of anything untoward that we put down it. I called Reception to ask for the Manager. My call was returned without any explanation to Guest Services seven times. My wife and I eventually went down to Reception and waited 15 minutes for Elizabeth, an assistant manager. When she heard the whole story she was very apologetic and promised to find us another room whilst we went out to breakfast.
The room she put us in was clearly a much better room and better laid out.
What we didn’t find out until after we had moved in were three separate flaws, the first of which should have been dealt with by the staff that Elizabeth sent up specifically to check the room over. The bedside lamp on the right hand side of the bed was broken. The other issues were more annoying. The noise of the air conditioning was very intrusive and there was the sound of of metal clanking from inside. The bed creaked loudly all night when either of us moved. Finally, whilst it did not affect us the windows so dirty on the outside that I took a photograph.

The bed easily sleeps two but there’s just very little space to move around-I suppose this is common with most hotels in the city. I’m 6foot y’all and when I sat down on the toilet my knees touched the wall of the bathroom. It’s super tiny.
What I found really unusual about this hotel is that there is just a pane of glass between the shower and the bedroom area. In other words, when someone is showering they are completely visible to the person in the bedroom area. This was kinda weird seeing as I was staying with my cousin and not a lover🤣 I asked the staff about helping me with this and they weren’t really helpful. There is a space for blinds which could hide the shower from the bedroom area but this was not fitted.
What also annoyed me about the hotel was that shower water pressure was so low. I my showers took incredibly long because of this and this made things even more awkward since that meant that I was going to be completely visible to my cousin for much longer.
The staff are friendly. The breakfast was included in our deal. Honestly, don’t get a breakfast inclusive offer. The breakfast is really boring and it never changes. It’s exactly the same everyday. They have a few things like eggs, croissants, roasted potatoes, a selection of breads, cheese and cold meats and sausages. There are also some fruits and the usual drinks-coffee, tea and juice.
The restaurant also offers a few burgers which you can pay for.
They never opened up the rooftop bar when I was there. This was a bit sad.
The library bar is a cost little bar where you can get a drink and sit down and read or have a conversation with someone.
The other bar is larger and offers a wider selection of drinks. The drinks are really expensive.
They do have elevators so a wheelchair could get in, they would need help at the entrance to get the door opened. I’m not sure if they have wheelchair friendly rooms available though.
I used the 24 hour gym- it’s really neat. It had everything you’d need. Treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights, smith machine and a couple benches. I like this gym.
What I liked most about this hotel was its location. You’re right next to Central Park! I would stay here again but I would insist on a screen between the shower and the bedroom if I wasn’t staying with a romantic partner. And, I wouldn’t get a breakfast...

The Hudson is great for international tourists who are going to spend a majority of their time partying. The several bars and restaurants on the lobby level and the fact that it is dark all day is perfect for hangovers and jet lag on a budget (kinda.)
While the lobby makes you feel swanky, problems arise the moment you go to the elevators. They take forever. Part of this problem could be because maintenance and hotel employees frequently take the main elevators up and down rather than the service elevators.
By the way, not all of the service elevators are marked and it’s quite disconcerting when you get to the lobby and the doors open up to a cluttered storage space.
The rooms are tiny. This doesn’t usually bother me; I travel between 1 and 7 times a month and typically prefer tiny boutique rooms. However, at 5’3 (barely), I couldn’t sit on the toilet with my knees facing forward because it’s crammed into the bathroom so close to the wall.
Then there are the acoustics: the place is loud if you have neighbors. The pipes between the bathrooms squealed whenever someone used their water. I went to the reception desk and spoke to a floor manager at 830 pm on a Friday night. She said she’d be right back after speaking to someone, so I sat in my pjs in the lobby for a good 20 minutes before I had to flag her down again. She wasn’t coming back at all.
She also couldn’t reach anyone from maintenance. At the time, I thought it was my toilet, so she told me to head back to my room and they’d be there shortly after she reached them. No one ever showed. I was kept up all night by the screeching every time someone got up for water or flushed the toilet.
At 10 am the next morning I complained again and they moved me. It was a hassle and one of the many front desk people I spoke to rolled her eyes when I told her the situation. But I was moved.
The second room was better and a bit quieter, but, again, they could really invest in acoustic paneling or drapes. With the windows shut and located on the 8th floor, I could hear two men arguing on the street.
The design is also strange. It’s hard to figure out the lights, and the AC is behind the headboard. If you’re someone who needs to be cool at night, that placement can definitely keep you awake.
All in all, I hated...
