Americas Best Value Inn Oakland Lake Merritt — Hotel in Oakland

This was the worst hotel out of 4 sub $75 hotels I stayed in during my trip to SF - and was the most expensive! Their advertising is deceptive, rooms are in incredibly poor shape, and is in a bad area. I would never consider staying here again!||||It's cheap lodging, so I'm not gonna complain about the datedness of the rooms, but they were also in poor condition. The shower valve leaked, and the shower temperature would vary between freezing cold and scalding hot. The refrigerator made a constant tapping sound. Most frighteningly, the swing bar door latch was broken. This is a safety risk, and literally a $5, 4 screw replacement. Beyond this, there were also cigarette butt holes in the bedding, and the bathroom window was wide open without a screen when I arrived. I decided to stay anyways, because by the time I checked in I didn't feel like going elsewhere.||||Around 12:30AM I was woken up to a woman screaming and yelling. I perceive this was in the parking lot. It woke up many other guests too, as I could hear them talking outside my room afterwards. I didn't go to check it out, but I did not see the police respond so I assume this is a common occurrence and the management does not care. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just wanted to go back to bed. An important note is this hotel is directly across from small buildings erected for the homeless to live. This in itself does not make me greatly uncomfortable, but I know it would make some other people feel this way.||||In the morning, I went to get breakfast, as advertised on their direct website as well as on the site I booked on. The staff member said they no longer offered breakfast "due to covid-19", but said the change was made very recently and they have not updated their website. Every other hotel I stayed at offered at least a takeout breakfast or better with the current covid situation (March 2022). They did not offer any discount because of this. They wouldn't even refund their "Resort fee" in this consideration. On my way to a fast food place for breakfast I was chased by a homeless man, not exactly an issue of the hotel's, but it well represents the type of area it's in.||||I don't look for any sort of luxury stay for less than $75, but really this hotel is not worth it. Literally the absolute most disgusting, worst motel I've ever had in my entire life. The young man at the front desk was racist, condescending and completely unhelpful. Grab my ID and compared it to all of the pictures of banned guests on the walls. After staying there, I'm positive that 75% of them are banned because they complained about the disgusting vial inhumane conditions they were forced to sleep in.

After noticing the bed, bugs, mites roaches and lice all over the room underneath the ceiling full of black mold, I asked for a new room, the front desk clerk literally literally laughed in my face. After looking down and finding bed bugs on my shoes, I left the motel founded. Founded the only place selling clothes at 2:00 in the morning. Spent $125 on clothes throughout what I was wearing and did not come back until morning to get my stuff that I had air sealed type with the lighter and trash bags.

Upon my return in the morning my $60 phone charger that I need because my phone needs 60 amps+ to charge was stolen. I can't say if it was staff or not because my door was wide open and so we're all of the other doors, this was 2 hours before checkout. The room cleaning staff saw me coming, Closed my door and pretended like they hadn't been inside even though they opened all of the windows, blinds and forgot to turn the water off in the sink.

I wouldn't even wish this hotel excuse me, Motel excuse me, ring of hell in Dante's inferno, on the men who killed my parents in the 90s.

It made me want to cry that there are many people here who are unhoused or very low income or ineligible for housing rental that live in this shanti. It is absolutely inhumane. Animals....deranged, foul, rabid animals would run away from this place. Please save yourself from going through what I did and clearly a lot of other people in this review section have gone through. I have bites. I have mites and I found two bed bugs on me since I left. It is embarrassing and humiliating. I have contacted the health department the better business bureau, state capital...

This was the most horrific experience I have ever had with any hotel. Me and a Co worker booked a night at this hotel mind you I have booked over 7 other times here. We were given a room on the first floor actually room 123 to be exact. After an hr in the room I noticed roaches and was immediately disgusted however I was already expecting because we were on the first floor that it's possible we may encounter a bug or two. When I politely complained about this to the front desk she offers me a room right next to it. To me that was completely unacceptable being that everyone knows how if u see one roach u may see a million. Long story short after inspecting this establishment its completely disgusting. The shower looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years, nasty food boxes and trash under bed and propped under wheels of bed to even it. Dust and dead bugs all over the place, burn holes in the bed and I wouldn't be surprised if there's bed bugs. The supposed manager Amina is completely unprofessional and condescending, she claimed to have cared however she lied about no other rooms that were equivalent or better were available when clearly they were. The corporate manager named Angela was a hot mess and rolled into the office the following morning looking like she just rolled out of bed from a long night of drinking. She manipulated me in thinking that she would comp our visit but then when we were leaving she said she couldn't do anything for us and kicked us off the property. I'm utterly disgusted and dissapointed with this establishment and they should be reported to the department of health because thre are alot of sanitary issues that need to be addressed.
