Shamrock Texas is just a stone throws away from the mid point of Route 66, and a fine place to stay when making that trek. The Route 66 motel on 12th in Shamrock is a great piece of that Americana.||||Pulling up, you’re greeting with the familiar U-shaped single story motels of the golden age era and you can tell there’s pride in the ownership. The rooms are clean, modern updates that mirror finer moderately-priced chain hotels rather than some of the themed motels you’ll fine on the 2000 plus miles of Route 66, but that’s fine with me…I prefer comfortable convention over replicas of kitsch. ||||My visit was during the summer, and the room’s AC was more than sufficiently chilled upon my arrival. I don’t why Texans feel 62 degrees is room temperature, but it did take the edge off the outdoor heat, and given the oppressive daytime temps it better too cool than the other. ||||Check in was fast and friendly, the room clean and lacking the deterioration (more than “maintained” but updated as mentioned before) of other motels of the same vintage, and is family-owned with what appears to be a sense of community. ||||Definitely worth consideration on your road...

Horrible experience. Dirty rooms, dead bugs in the corner of the room, bed sheets looked like they were not changed between guests, unpleasant man at front desk did not take my concerns seriously, awful bathrooms- water damage on ceilings and dirty towels( lipstick marks on towels). People were outside the room all night n there didn't seem to be any management at night to find. Lock barely worked and I did not feel comfortable with people talking outside door. Seemed like this is a motel people live at and not for vacations.

Update this place is very unprofessional and the "owner" kept telling me to put my husband on the phone to handle things and has no respect for women. He asked if I took pictures of things to back up my claims (I did) because he wasn't taking me seriously. DO NOT STAY HERE. Roach motel and unsavory people hanging outside all night. Notice how all the reviews sound similar? Because they are fake!!! This place is a dirty, bug infested, disgusting motel who doesn't change their sheets...

We checked in late, but called ahead to book our room. I went based on reviews, BIG MISTAKE... When we checked in our room was probably 85 degrees and there were flies EVERYWHERE. When we informed the desk he came to look and said "all rooms have them, here use this, I don't have anymore rooms" and gave us some sort of bug spray. We had our dog and daughter with asthma so that was a no go. We loaded our car back up and tried to get a refund and he said "if I give a better room will you stay? That one was used already." So they gave us a room that hadn't been clean from my understanding. We got to the other room it didn't smell and there were no flies but still 85+ in the room so ac took awhile to catch up. I have photos of the flies as well as a bite on my stomach. I don't know which room I got it from just know it was from one of them. Area seemed safe and very quiet town but I'd advise finding a...

Disgusting Motel. Owner was very rude. Driving across country and just needed a place to crash with my fiance and son. Soon as I came in the room lifted the sheets there was dead bed bugs and Beatles , roaches, bed bug stains all over the walls and bed sheets. Requested a refund. He faked the refund then it became apparent they might very well have hidden cameras, he somehow knew that my fiance used the bathroom and when we confronted him he got very scared when we told him we have a device to detect cameras , he screamed and shouted , we threatened to call the police and he then said he was going to call. Spoke to a very nice man at a hotel who said he's heard similar stories about that place. DO NOT GO HERE AND DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. He might have also seen my son using the bathroom if he does have cameras there. Very disappointing. Stay away from this place

Clean, updated rooms, very inexpensive, great service. The Route 66 decor is nice with the old Conoco station gift shop less than a mile down the road. Five star for an inexpensive (but completely updated) MOtel UPDATE: I came back for 2 nights 12-1-16. Same good service, same great rate, as stated before, the rooms had recently been completely remodeled, everything (fridge, tv, bathroom, mattresses etc) updated. A year later things are further updated. The rooms are like getting an $80 hotel room, but its a $40 motel room. Good hot water, clean room, comfy mattress. For the reviewer who couldn't figure out the remote, press power on the tv remote, press tv/av, select hdmi-1 then use cable remote. If you want to pay $100 a night there are many options in town, if you need to pay half of that this is the place you want.

This place is ABSOLUTELY DIGUSTING! It looks to be abandoned, but they still take your money. There is NO ONE on site. They send you a room number and door code in email. Everything is broken down and trash and debris everywhere. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER STAYING HERE. STEER CLEAR OF ANYTHING WITH THE APPALACHIA PROPERTY GROUP on it. Parking lot was completely empty except for 1 broken down car with flat tires , ice machine was empty and full of dust and debris , broke down soda machine surrounded by trash and debris. Nasty nasty place !
