The Good:
Rooms were clean and furniture was sharp looking and well cared for.
Everything aesthetically was updated
Service was mostly (more on that later) professional and courteous
Beds were comfortable, and warm.
House keeping was thorough and professional
Rates were fair
Hotel had an advantageous location as well as a variety of restaurants within walking distance.
The Bad:
The entire hotel was in renovation and construction was rampant, this created a fair amount of excess noise and activity. The hotel offered to wave cancellation fees in lieu of this, which just seemed incredibly dishonest: If you know work will be done then lower your rates and inform customers. Customers arriving after a long day of travel will likely be unable and/or unwilling to find alternatives in such a busy area.
Speaking of renovation, our room was renovated, but not in any of the important ways. The AC compressor was about as old as I am, and constantly short cycled throughout the night, making it hard to sleep.
The spa had the following instructions: 1.) Emergency Stop Button, 2.) Timer to 15. #2 is easy sure, but what about the E-stop? is it supposed to be pulled out? pushed in? Something else? I couldn't get the damn thing to work. When I asked the service desk about it they said they don't know and were annoyed with me even asking. Looking into it on my own it turns out that the spa used to close earlier than the posted hours, and whatever device they have to keep people from using it after hours hadn't been updated to the new hours. (If you're staying there, for the record the e-stop should be pushed in, and I think it stops working around 2100-2200)
The ugly
Phone in our room didn't work. Please don't hold this against the hotel as I requested that it be fixed after our stay.
Push bars for stair-case doors were mostly falling off the doors. This seemed like a potential fire hazard to me. I notified the front desk upon arrival, and when we departed 48 hours later they were all still just barely hanging onto the doors.
Breakfast: I usually don't expect much from a free continental breakfast, but man was it awful. Eggs were burnt to a crisp and flavorless and the turkey sausage was one of the worst things...
Read moreWe utilized this hotel for our hotel block for our wedding. It came highly recommended to us from our venue as they have a shuttle that can be used to move guests back and forth. I contacted the hotel and was told in writing in our hotel block contract that the shuttle would run multiple trips for 1 hour at the start of our event and for 1 hour at the end of the event. Upon arrival, the front desk knew nothing of the event, the shuttle driver was unwilling to help. He made 1 trip to the event. Meaning of my roughly 50 guests, only 15 had a ride to the event, and none of them had a ride home. They were all forced to take ubers, drive (so no drinking), and my father-in-law and some of our aunts were utilizing personal vehicles to drive people back to the hotel. Had I known this was how my guests would have been treated, I would have a selected a MUCH BETTER hotel. This place is outdated and needs repairs, but despite this, I went with it, because they offered a shuttle. I am not happy.
11.23.17: through talking to my guests at thanksgiving it has come to my attention that based on my review, holiday inn express Southfield sent out surveys to my guests. Needless to say because of the lack of shuttle and unprofessional response to the questions regarding the shuttle they were poor reviews. Be forewarned this location has zero qualms about sharing personal information with other individuals. The hotel sent partial screen shots of my email discussions to my guests. The screen shots didn't contain the full conversation, but what's worse is that they shared it at all. Contact details, email conversations etc. All without permission. If you express concerns they don't address them. They make excuses, without apology, and share your information. DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL. YOU CAN STAY AT THE Hilton garden inn for comparable pricing significantly better service 900% better rooms and shocker a shuttle. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD DEALING WITH A HOTEL. iff there were a way to do negative stars you can bet your...

First I Woke to a vehicle honking alarm outside-cops called. Turns out a break in was attempted. 6:00am. 10/17/21. Not the hotels fault, but still happened here.
Asked for late checkout at 6:30 am. Hussan said ok, 12:00pm was agreed upon.
Room #117 Came back to hotel, came back at 10:30, they are cleaning it. Asked why they were cleaning my room when I had a late check out at noon, Front lady had no information on my stay, no receipt, nothing that even showed someone was in the room at all-even after confirmation number was provided. The Front Desk lady said it’s wild and crazy there was no record of me saying there and made a phone call to Hussan. He didn’t answer. The reason for the late check out was to sleep for a couple hours after a very early morning shift at 6 AM. While waiting at the front desk for the lady to find my information, someone else had called requesting a late check out and she said no late check outs on Sundays, only at an extra charge. Why did I get one and the person calling didn’t? I need to sleep-offered no bed for the time being. Overall the lady didn’t seem to really care about any kind of customer service. No breakfast, No filled coffee. Overall a poorly taken care of Holiday Inn Express. Attempted vehicle break-ins, lack of consistency and breaking of promises, along with disorganization makes my Google review very low. For management, I hope they can get this figured out before corporate removes their credentials. Stay somewhere...
