Overall, a nice hotel, though, a bit pricey. My true rating for it is somewhere between a 3 and 4 stars, so I landed on 4. The good: The grounds are very well maintained. There was a wedding being prepared for the days we were there, so maybe they paid closer attention to the grounds than normal? Not sure. The pool was clean, though very cold in early July. It was very quiet the days we were there. Normally, you hear the slamming of doors from other rooms, and little kids and drunk parents screaming down the hallways as you're trying to sleep. This was not the case here. Our room was fairly clean, and the carpet looked less than 2 years old. The place has nice charm and is tucked away in a nice quiet location. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Attached is a view from our 2nd floor room. The not so good: The building is starting to be in disrepair. Renovations and upgrades are needed very soon. This place has so much potential, and it would be a shame for it to continue to be left to degrade. There's an outside balcony in each room, but when I walked on it, it doesn't feel very secure. I made sure to walk on top of the studs. I think this balcony is a huge safety hazard. There were lots of stains (blood or something else) on almost all off our sheets and towels. The murphy bed comforter had significant blood stains on it. I had to completely remove all the sheets and comforter from the murphy bed and ask the attendant for a new set, which he gladly got for me. There's a very small indoor pool (maybe 8 feet by 15 feet), which I at first thought was the hot tub. Unfortunately, the hot tub was one of the kinds that you would find at someone's house, not at a hotel. Our room did not have a microwave or refrigerator, so eating out meant we could not bring back any leftovers. The heating ducts on the floor desperately needed a good cleaning. They were filled with so much dust, and sprinkled with potato chips - a good breeding ground for bugs. All in all, I would recommend this place for a family looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay in Stowe. For us, I can't see paying again what we paid there. I think there might be better options for that price, but I would consider coming back to Stowhof in the future.

We had an interesting stay at The Stowehof. Our check-in was on a rainy day but we got to our room and everything was alright until we turn on our heater and there were just clicking noises. It never came on. We inquiry about it up front only to get a plug in heater handed to us....no mention of exchanging our room or anyone coming to check on it. There were only 10 cars on the property so they definitely had vacancy. That night the area got hit with strong winds and the power went out. It came on at about 8am just enough for us to have breakfast on site and then died again at 11am to 8pm. We stayed on site the whole day because of flooding and down trees through the village. When we went up front to ask when they expected the lights back on again at 5pm, the lady at the front desk act as if it was our fault for staying there. All we wanted to know was will they open the restaurant when the lights came back. Through out this whole ordeal, not a single staff came to our room or call to make sure that we were ok or updated us on the situation. When we stayed in the common area, in the morning, most staffers who saw us were nice and the house keeper who realized that we were all the way back in the hall did bring a flashlight to light our dark hallway through the day. I just did not feel that the hotel had any emergency procedures to prepare for any real disaster or that they care too. The wind was so strong it knock shingles down, and doors flung opened. I fear to think how they will handle a true emergency. They let us have breakfast free because of the electrical issues. But as beautiful as the grounds is, I will not stay here again. And yes, this is the longest review I had ever needed to write.

Beautiful mid century lodge. Every inch of the hotel is interesting and the detail is amazing. The rooms are casual, nothing fancy, but adorable. The front desk staff working here are all very nice and give you plenty of privacy and advice. Great views from any window. I would 100% recommend staying here! The 24hr coffee, tea, and hot cocoa bar is nice. I loved the build your own bloody Mary station at breakfast! Unfortunately didn't get to have dinner at the hotel but when we come back I will! The pool, hot tub, and sauna are simple and clean. And the entire place is dog friendly! My only recommendation to the team would be to discuss self-awareness with the cleaning team. The woman leading is very loud when she goes around to clean rooms. If you were trying to nap or relax, with her on your hall you will get no peace. She also is not sensitive to how the things she says can make someone feel uncomfortable. She touched the do not disturb tag on my room door and said to the girl that she was training "see this tag means they don't want us". She said this like she was upset and made me feel really uncomfortable. That is such a minor thing though compared to everything The Stowehof has to offer. The surrounding town is really cute with lots of places to explore!

The views are fantastic if you end up with a balcony room and the location is fairly quiet being that you're a few minutes off of the main road. The view and location are the only reason this place gets 2 stars in my opinion.

Check in was easy enough, you get a traditional key to your room. The room itself was unique to the time period the hotel was built in which I though was pretty cool, a bit like stepping into a time capsule. I think that's about where the fun wore off for me.

The balcony outside the sliding door (which barely worked to get open) was questionable at best to keep you from tumbling over the edge. No chairs on the balcony to enjoy the views. As per typical European buildings, the balcony was covered which is great if the weather isn't fantastic but you'd still like to enjoy the air.

There was a neat changing/powder room area between the bedroom and the bathroom. We didn't have any need to use it but I did appreciate the classic styling.

As for the bathroom, I would say it got a $500 makeover in the last couple of years. Half of that budget was spent on silicone caulking and paint. Area behind the toilet wasn't painted and the caulking had so many gap, cracks and runs in it I'd say it was someone's first try at it. The rest of the budget was spent on poorly installed tile. The shower and toilet were functional but don't expect anything to look like it was installed or maintained by a professional.

The whole facility could use 2 full time, skilled carpenters/master repair people. I'm sure they could work 50-60 hours a week all year and still have plenty to do. This place needs a complete overhaul, not that the styling needs to change, but the maintenance of the windows, doors, vents, steps, balcony's, roofs and so much more need a tremendous amount of work.

Unfortunately the Fritz restaurant and bar was closed (6/2022) which was a real downer. Unless you're feeling like you're in shape, you won't be walking downtown to get dinner or have a few drinks. I certainly would have settled for 'just' the bar being open.

The bed was okay, nothing to write home about. The pillows....my goodness. I'm certainly above average in shoulder width and I could use a pillow maybe half as thick. Thankfully the AC in the room (window unit) seemed to work just fine and kept us cool overnight.

Checkout was quick and easy thankfully, we didn't sleep well with the super thick pillows and what seemed like paper thin walls so we left fairly early.

Overall a very disappointing overnight for the money ($250 w/tax and fees). If it was $100/night, I'd feel like it was an okay deal...Just take your money and go book at Vontrapp...

My husband and I stayed for the last night of our honeymoon/babymoon. After we checked in we dropped our bags and went out that night for a nice dinner. When we got back to the Stowehof we went to bed right away. The next morning I got up to take my shower, I looked down and there was a giant hair on the tub floor. (I have very short hair, this was NOT MINE) I jumped out of the shower feeling grossed out, and when I opened the shower curtain I noticed a used washcloth hanging on the shower curtain. To make everything worse, I went to use some lotion and the lotion they provided was clearly used, or refilled because half of it was gone, and the inside of the bottle was all dusty. I looked down on the bathroom floor, MORE LONG HAIR!!! At this point I was freaking out. This room had not been cleaned and we got back so late the night before we didn’t even notice. I felt so grossed out mostly because of COVID-19, and I’m in my third trimester of pregnancy with asthma so I’m very high risk. I went down to the desk and spoke with the manager, she was not working the day before. She said she would take care of everything, and asked me if I wanted someone to go up and clean the room..... I said no we are leaving anyways. So than checkout time came... she said I’m so sorry about your room I’m going to give you $48 off......So she wanted to give me 25% off my room that was clearly not cleaned, and during a time of a pandemic. That’s just unacceptable. the room should be more clean than usual. That’s when I got upset. I said “listen iv kept really calm about this considering I just slept in a dirty room last night, have you even looked into if the room was cleaned ??” She finally agreed to fully refund the $192 I had paid for the room.... but I will never stay at that hotel again... they should be Extra cautious of cleaning procedures during this time of COVID 19. They should be shut down, and asked to do a fully cleaning. I still feel so grossed out that the floor wasn’t even swept and that I may have even slept in a dirty bed that had just been remade... again they should...
