First and foremost, after reading the bad reviews I had some reservations. I thought we were going into a really country hick ||sh!thole. But instead we were pleasantly surprised. This is a no-frills resort. Pictures on web does not do justice to this place. If you’re looking for a bougie place, move along not for you. Looking to be catered to left and right, move along nothing to see here. Looking for a clean, quiet, family friendly, relaxing inexpensive get-away that is one of the quintessential experiences on Lake George? Jackpot!||||Pros:||CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!!||Rooms, grounds and beach. All are well kept. Super impressed.||||Bob is DOPE! Former city boy making it work. His employees are on top of it all. ||||Beach front, what more can you ask for.||||It is fairly quiet in this establishment.||||FREE KAYAK!!!! Awesome.||||THE VIEW!!!!!!!||||We liked their beds. So clean and comfortable.||||BBQ area everywhere. Picnic tables clean. ||||Cons:||Walls are thin so best keep your loud voices in check.||||Lounge chairs do need replacing but does the job. The Adirondack chairs are new though. ||||THAT’S IT with the cons||||TIPS: Remember this is a no-frills place hence one of the reasons it’s inexpensive.||||DO bring your own beach towels||DO bring some extra bathroom towels in case you don’t like theirs. They are rather thin. Clean as hell but small.||DO bring your own toiletries like hair products and body wash/soap||DO enable your phone for wifi phone use. No data service since out in the mountains. There are no phones in the rooms.||DO bring your cooler to put ice in.||||MAKE SURE to book beach side. Although the other rooms are good too, beach side is extra special||||MAKE SURE you ask all your questions and needs between 9am-5pm because office will be closed outside of that. ||||All in all, there are some things that can be worked on but they are minor and can be overlooked since overall an awesome place. ||||LAKE GEORGE:||MAJORITY of restaurants suck. Foodies beware, you’ll be sorely disappointed. That said, an Indian restaurant in the village on the water is good. Capris pizza is good, burgers suck. Boathouse, great location and scenic view but food suck. I can name more but to lazy and too long to...
Read moreDecided to take a family vacation to Lake George. We found the most reasonable price at the Golden Sands during the time we wanted to stay. The old saying “too good to be true” is what comes to mind. Even though the price was reasonable in comparison to others, it was still expensive. The rooms were so dark you could not see anything with all the lights in the room on. Very dated decor and the rugs must have been original to when the resort opened 50 plus years ago. The shower was ridiculously small, like 12 inches by 12 inches. The rooms and the grounds were filthy. There were duck dropping everywhere on the grounds and all over the beach. It was disgusting. I would not cook on the grills provided if someone payed me to do so. We didn’t expect anything fancy from a cabin on the lake at all but there’s no excuse for the filthy conditions we had to endure. Owner was odd and did not take constructive criticism well at all. He kept talking to me about his girlfriend and guests that he did not like the first time I spoke to him. Very unprofessional. The Diamond Grove next door was a much better choice. Worth the extra few dollars. Just trying to save someone from what we went...
