I went to Coiffure Funky Toque a couple days ago, I am a 19 year old male and my hair was medium/long in length and I was planning on growing it out more. But the top was a bit too long for the sides so I went to the salon with hopes to fix only that specific problem. After having my hair washed, I sat down in the chair and meet the stylist, Julie, at first meeting her I was hesitant to stay, as there was clearly a language barrier- she barely speaks English. But I stayed, my first mistake. I told her I want to keep it long and continue growing it, and that the purpose of the visit was to trim the top a bit (half an inch to and inch) and slightly trim the sides. You would think that's pretty straightforward right? Well apparently not. She cut off about 3 inches from the sides and back, and about 2 inches on top. Not at all what I had asked for. On top of that, the cut looked extremely feminine - I am a 19 year old guy and I looked like Ellen DeGeneres. Julie should not be cutting guys hair as she clearly has no idea how to distinguish masculine from feminine hairstyles, and she should not be cutting clients hair in which the client primarily speak english - or you are bound for dissapointment. I left the salon furious with my new appearance, and the fact that my idiot proof request was not at all listened too. After walking out the door filled with anger and dissapointment, I sprinted to the nearest open barbershop and had the guy fix the awful haircut that I had just received from Coiffure Funky Toque. I would have gladly given this place zero stars, but I once received a great haircut from a male stylist there, hence the lonely single star I did give. I advise all males and non French speakers to stay away from Julie. I will never be returning to Coiffure...
Read moreAfter hearing great things about them, I approached Funky Toque with a somewhat unique situation: I wanted my first haircut in 17 years, after having had long hair in one form or another for about 20 years. Naturally, I was quite nervous about the whole affair.
I went in for a consultation with José, who spent a lot of time going over options with me and trying to find a style that would work with my face. Not once did I feel pressured to cut it if I didn't want to, and it was obvious that he had a lot of experience in making the most of someone's hair.
Once the decision was made to start, he proceeded to spend a full hour trying three progressively shorter styles until we found one that made both of us happy. He made sure I wasn't given a style that would require too much maintenance (my previous hair maintenance routine largely consisted of washing it, brushing it, and tying it back, so I'm not one for too much fuss), but that could still be sculpted depending on my mood on any given day.
His enthusiasm and attention to detail really made the whole process quite exciting, and I spent the rest of the day getting compliments from people - none of whom had ever seen me with short hair. Even the other staff members (and clients!) gave their approval, which meant a lot after so long away from the scissors. We won't even go into the reaction it elicited from my wife, though I will say it made it want to cut my hair more often.
I really can not recommend Funky Toque enough. They turned what could have been a very bad experience into a fantastic one, and I'll definitely be going back for...
Read moreI was there yesterday (June 8th) and let me tell you, my total experience was more than just great!
From the receptionist at the front desk, to Annie (the extremely talent hair colorist), to Carolane (the lady that took the time to wash and color my hair with extreme caution), to Jessica (the hairdresser) and to all the awesome staff that worked during that day. Thank you kindly! Thank you very much for taking extreme good care of me and my hair from the damage that SALON DEAUVILLE HAD DONE.
Annie fixed my hair nasty orangey/yellow color with precision and alot of patience. Even while working on other clients hair color, she constantly kept an eye on me and my hair. She would checkup on me and asked if everything was fine, if I was okay and if I needed anything. So kind and very heartwarming.
Carolane, the sweet woman that kindly helped Annie out with my coloration. She also washed my hair and explained me all the steps that were being done during my hair wash.
Jessica, the hairdresser took the time to cut my hair nicely while fixing up my choppy and nasty hair style. She was also very helpfu and very informative about the hair products.
THANK YOU SALON FUNKY TOQUE for yet another...
