A good place to get groceries in Bukit Bintang without breaking the bank. The range of products here are like your usual Giant stores. Prices here will obviously be much lower than at the higher end supermarkets in the nearby Lot 10 (Isetan) and Pavilion (Mercato). But the goods here are the cheaper locally made varieties. So don't expect to find too many imported products here. But it's definitely one of the best options for groceries in this very touristy area.
There's also a section at the front for prepared food. You can get reasonably priced roast chicken, rice/noodle packs, assorted fried snacks and Malay kuih. Another section is dedicated to the bakery, where there are the usual assortment of buns, cakes/tarts, and other sweet treats. Also available is the classic Giant self service preserved fruits (jeruk) and salty snack corner, where you can help yourself to all the goodies for it to be weighed before paying. All these sections are very conveniently place at the start with the food all displayed to draw customers in as they look and smell very appealing. Plus, the shoplots leading to the entrance are all those snack food types which are very popular.
Because of that (now keep in mind that the location is in Sungei Wang, which is already always congested), this Giant gets very crowded with both locals and tourists, and there is usually a long line to pay. Still, if you're willing to brave the crowd and get inside to the lower ground of Sungei Wang (which is a feat in itself), it's definitely worth a trip should you need to get some food or amenities. Just a word of caution though, be extra vigilant around this area. I've personally witnessed two cases of pickpocketing in this area. Sometimes, customers may mishandled the goods, so you may see items on the shelves all haphazard especially if you come later in the day. So like I mentioned, if you can "tahan", then grit your teeth...

While it is cleaner and has a modern flair, I can't say I'm impressed with the new layout and prices. Being a local Pudu residents since 2014 has got me wary of choosing the best groceries prices between Giant, Hero Market (Berjaya Times Square) and The Store (Pudu Plaza) which Giant has lost their allure of having good deals.
I don't own my own transport so I factor in carrying 5-10kg of groceries and Giant Sg Wang being the farthest doesn't help either. Even the bakeries prices are crazy expensive compared to Hero Market. Can't understand why breads are a luxury foods for typical Malaysians purchasing power since 1990s!
In conclusion, Hero Market has better prices for fruits and fresh produces while The Store occasionally has great deal for dry groceries and poultries. Shop here if you're happen to park at Sg Wang Plaza and need to do your grocery run ASAP!
P/S: If you're after frozen and chill stuff, the post renovation Giant has the bigger selection versus Hero Market BTS (forget about...
Read moreGiant Supermarket was a popular supermarket for many years in Sungai Wang Plaza. It has undergone an amazing facelift & is now sleek, clean, neat & modern. The fruits section has special discounts & promotions on certain items everytime, which I really like. The frozen products are displayed in nice, big, enclosed refrigerators.
There is also a bakery now. Their curry puffs are nice. The famous fried chicken, Uncle Jack's, is still there with the upgraded seating area for customers to eat in comfort. But in a recent visit, I find the chicken to be smaller & not the same taste as before. I guess Uncle Jack's have to "adjust" to challenging economic times. I don't fancy their chicken anymore. It's got a thick, flour covering, fried hard like rocks. The place is dirty & smudgy.
I will never eat here again. The Uncle Jack's fried chicken that I like is...
