Salvation Army Family Store — Local services in North Island

I went in to buy a tea set and found one I loved. The sticker price was listed as $15 and I left it behind the counter with the clerk while I shopped around more. When iI went up to pay for it the lady told me it was $35 for it and tried to tell me there had been no price on it and that as it was “a queen anne five piece its $35” it was not a “five piece set” it was a six piece that was missing a cup and a milk pitcher. What a joke. She did not even tell me the change in price and just smiled condescendingly when we said the tag on it initially was fifteen dollars. Suffice to say I was not happy and did not purchase the items. I might have even bought it at that price if it weren’t so blatantly sneaky.

Not to mention all the clothing is old and of low quality especially compared to every other charity/second hand store in town.

Visited this store yesterday. During my browsing noticed a very unsafe aluminium ladder. This ladder did not have the original stays in place instead it had some rough rope to hold the legs?? I indicated to the counter staff that I believed it to be unsafe their response was one of lack of real care. I subsequently rang the local Corps number and passed on my concern. I happened to be back in Kope this afternoon and on a quick check of the store found the ladder had been moved but was still for sale in the shop It saddens me to see people's safety at risk by attempting to sell unsafe product. My concern us for the unknowing teen, mother, gradparent that might get badly injured using this ladder. It's a shame when profit overudes safety concerns.

Got some good bargains. Purchased a 2nd hand table $40 , and now it looks brand new, just recovered it with vinyl. Happy with purchase. $40 for gas was a bit steep I feel. But it's a long way from whakatane to kawerau. I'm greatful. Thanks salvo. My mother is very happy
