This is a beautiful hike! Unfortunately we didn't know it's possible to get off the bus before the monastery at Lluc so went there and had to walk first the 4km up to the start of the trail near the Repsol petrol station, thus adding a total of 8km to our round trip. It also meant that we had to turn round just a couple of hundred metres from the top, otherwise we'd have missed the last bus back to Alcudia. We actually thought about going all the way and trying to stay at the monastery overnight but we had internet signal on the mountain, so I was able to check and the monastery has a minimum stay of 2 nights, so not an option for us. A bit disappointing, but honestly we were that near the top, I don't think we missed much view wise. The first part of the route is fairly decent track. You then come to a stile, and a pay booth with a gruff gentleman who will charge you 6e per person to use the trail as its on private land. You then go up through a lovely shaded forest area. The trail is extremely uneven with lots of loose ankle breaker rocks. When you get above the tree line things get pretty interesting. The trail is not particularly well marked and if you're like us, not paying attention and staring at the views you will inevitably find you've gone off the trail. We did this so many times our all trails play back looks like spaghetti junction😂 The walk then turns into basically scrambling/carefully tiptoeing across large razor sharp rocks. You will absolutely need proper hiking shoes and good balance because one slip here could be a very big problem. Even the plants are trying to take you out. Thorny bushes everywhere! On the way up we passed a guy coming down in shorts who's lower legs were completely lacerated. Wear long trousers and thank me later😂 I'm assuming the climbing over massive sharp rocks continues all the way to the top, but we had to leave for the bus. In my opinion coming down is harder than going up. Tired legs plus rolling rocks= a recipe for disaster. Be very careful. This is not an easy hike at all, but absolutely one you...
Read moreBeautiful hike! You can find the map on AllTrails, and I recommend downloading the map for offline access while hiking. You will come to a loop section, and AllTrails guides you to the left to complete the loop portion in a clockwise direction.
Took us 5.5 hours going left at the loop around the peak with a few breaks. If you decide to go left, expect fairly strenuous conditions—it’s approx an hour of rock scrambles and a steep grade to the top. But well worth it! Even on a cloudy evening, the views were beautiful. A bit chilly at the summit at the beginning of October.
Recommend hiking boots and pants. Some thorny bushes along the trail and sharp rocks throughout. Portions required me to sit and slide or use my knees to get up. Loose rocks from beginning to end. I did this hike in OnClouds and, while I made it, I had several near ankle twists and slips due to improper footwear.
We parked in the parallel parking spots near Restaurant Ca’n Galleta just past the Respol gas station. Good snacks and food options in the bar/cafe attached to the gas station.
There is a 6€ per person entry fee at the beginning.
Overall, highly recommend during a trip to Mallorca with the...
Read moreGreat climb and amazing views. We took the route starting from the repsol petrol station, it worked out around 12km (800m elevation), taking around 4hr 30mins with breaks. Would definitely recommend using the all trails app as it’s easy to lose the path at certain points. The route divides into two, the left is more suited to experienced climbers with some tricky scrambling.
Ended up dropping one of our phones into a crack at the summit, if anyone fancies a challenge there’s an iPhone in the gap...
