The 1 star is for false advertisement on the warranty offered on purchases of new products, and their failure to honor those agreements, as originally sold to the consumer.
Nearly 2 years ago (end of July 2022) I bought a Playstation 5 console bundle and the employee gave me the option to buy a 2-year warranty for an additional $79.99, where I would be able to exchange the console for a new one if any issues came up within that timeframe. This was the verbal understanding communicated to me at the time.
About a year after this purchase, the ps5 controller started showing signs of joystick drifting, which got worse over the next week, making it unusable. This was unusual for me, as controller usage was never aggressively handled. I brought this in with the original receipt asking if I could exchange for just a new controller. The employee said I would need to bring in the entire console to exchange for a new system, per the warranty. Since I preferred to have the warranty active in case the console itself experienced issues up to the original 2 year limit, I opted to buy a new controller. The employee acknowledged I could still exchange my original system for a new one, provided it occurs up to the warranty's deadline.
Now, fast forward to yesterday, the disc reader on my ps5 console abruptly stopped working. This was a system issue, as multiple other disc's failed to read. The console did not experience any trauma or damage, so I decided to claim my warranty today on grounds that this must be an internal defect of the console. The original controller with drift issues would have naturally been part of the exchange, as well.
After presenting the employee with the original receipt and explaining the situation, he told me Gamestop recently changed their warranty policy. Rather than offering an exchange for a new system, they would only offer me a used/refurbished one instead. I would not have paid for a warranty on a new product in the first place, if this was the actual information presented to me when I purchased these items.
The original warranty agreement would not be grandfathered in, so this company essentially lied in an effort to make a higher profit. This is the sort of business practice that results in the loss of what were once long-term customers.
After over twenty years of shopping at Gamestop stores, and being a pro member during some of that time, this was incredibly disappointing. I know the other warranties I have active on new products are worthless to me now. Personally, I don't risk buying used consoles and controllers as I consider it a gamble on their longevity. Used purchases have, for the most part, been limited to used discs on relatively older games. Warranties on all items, both new and used, need to be transparent without contradictions during the time of purchase.
For those thinking about buying anything from Gamestop, I would suggest looking into other...
Read moreI purchased a game from a different location but this one was closer to me so I went here to return the game 2 weeks after I purchased it. The dark haired man working there was passive aggressive and rude. He told me that they don’t do returns on opened new games and I explained that the other store gave me the game from behind the counter, it wasn’t in the clear plastic wrap but it was new. He asked me why I was returning it and I said it was because it wasn’t the exact game I was looking for. He very rudely said “well if it wasn’t the exact game you were looking for you would have returned it a day or two after you purchased it.” I have newborn twins at home! I’m very busy and rarely have the time to be going out, plus 2 weeks isn’t very long. He then claimed that he had no proof that the game was actually new, that I could have purchased it, played it and was trying to return it. If I wanted to return it, I would have to go to the original store. I understand if he couldn’t do the return, he could have simply said to go to the original store. He didn’t need to be rude and accuse me of being a liar in front of the entire...
Read moreCame an hour before closing, and the guy treated me & my gf in the most hedious way possible. Holy christ, this was one of the worst times I've been treated as a customer smh.
Also, I was always trying to be so nice to this guy by asking him like stuff around the things he was doing at the beginning just to try to make his last hour to be less miserable or somthing because I know what it feels to be trapped by your own at work. But after the second question, I noticed that he was just in a bad mood or he hated me...
Anyway, this guy looked like he needed to touch some grass or get some sunlight fs. Sorry for this last comment, but I'm pretty sure that this guy roasted me like 100 times in his mind.
Just one star because the place looked nice, but I mean at this point, no wonder why it looked this way since nobody comes because of this...
