Allbirds — Local services in New York

I LOVE the Soho staff and my Allbirds. I actually didn't buy mine from the Soho location. I ordered them so I could have a comfortable trip during my visit to New York. With all the walking, in the freezing cold, this was the true test. Well, I am now drinking the Kool-Aid, and I literally drug my boyfriend to this Soho location on 12/8/19 during our anniversary trip just to make him try Allbirds on. Let's just take a moment and let that last sentence sink in--during our 3 day trip, for our 1 year anniversary, in Midtown, I literally made us take a trip to Soho for Allbirds. I have to laugh. While we were at the Soho location, my boyfriend bought a pair, and I left with some free shoelaces (because I helped tell a customer how wonderful my Allbirds are and helped him choose the correct size for his mother-in-law). I have since bought two more pairs, and I bought a pair for my Dad who had a stroke the morning after we got home from our trip--so I wanted my Dad to have a cloud to walk on while he is relearning to use the left side of his body. Additionally in this single months time, my boyfriend's co-worker just bought a pair, and so did my sister in law! So, we are now both ranting and raving over these shoes. The most ironic thing for me is I was so skeptical about these shoes when I got them. Additionally, the Soho location is a great reflection of the Allbirds company itself. They really have the best attitude, and bring the whole shoe buying experience together. I wanted to buy all my extra shoes from Jovan and Jeff, the gentlemen that helped us, but I couldn't fit all those extra shoes in my carry-on...

Bought a pair of tree runners. After a month of light walking, a hole showed up on the front part of my right shoe.

Contacted customer service and they told me I must have gotten the wrong size, which I didn’t. These shoes are comfortable but don’t last. They also become very tight and extremely uncomfortable when they became damp, which means you will suffer if it happens to rain while you are walking.

I am surprised that no reviews on the product page mentioned the quality and damp issue, and wanted to leave a review. But I found out that their website doesn’t allow customers to leave reviews as they wish. Instead they solicit reviews from selected customers. That means the thousands of positive reviews on their website are possibly all fake.

Be aware that you are paying hundreds of dollars for a pair of shoes that don’t last long. And this company feels very scammy in the way that they present their products and handle...

12.5.17 - stopped by to return a pair of Allbirds that were one size too small and I kept the size that fit right. The store is a pop-up and its staff is straight forward and kind. I got the sense that they don't really wear the shoes and they are there just to help with the transactions and make the pop up a good experience, but I could be completely 'bonkers' wrong.

Overall, I like the Allbirds and I own two pairs in almost 1 year. The merino wool is comfortable and keeps you warm up to around 20 degrees. The merino does not smell, but if you wear your Allbirds for 6 months straight, like I did, the wool on the insoles will wear down and the sweat from your foot will soak into the insole base, which will be the main source of the odor.
