You made me feel less than.
This morning, I came to your store and inquired about your gift box variety and dimensions. I had trouble understanding, and I asked for more clarification. Right after I thanked you for your help, you turned to your coworker, thinking that I wouldn't be able to see, and made a face like I couldn't be any more stupid.
English isn't my first language. I know I'm still struggling. But It took me a while to even get to this point. And I had just finished an additional early morning shift to afford the gift for someone dear to me. Did you stop to think why I had trouble comprehending? With that immature gesture of yours, you have succeeded in stripping me of the little sense of belonging I had as an immigrant. Had I known that I would be unwelcome at your establishment, I would have never set foot.
I hope your other customers do not face such condescending attitude. Maybe they wouldn't have to if they happen to fit your narrow view of eligible customers worthy of respect.
For those needing to visit a Paper Source store, I highly recommend the one by Union Square. It is the opposite of this place -- they brainstorm with you on gifting methods, give you advice on the alternatives, and go out of their way to meet your needs. It's a...
Read moreI have to say probably one of the most dissatisfying experiences I’ve ever had at a stationery/gift wrap store. I asked the sales clerk if a cupcake gift bag I was picking looked a little too feminine/for a little girl’s birthday because it was for my 79-year-old dad. (They just didn’t have a lot of birthday options, which is already a problem.) The sales person looked at me and said “would he really care, like it’s just a bag man“. In addition to just not being a helpful comment, why is this person working selling very expensive decorative paper goods. They are clearly about individual preferences and matching an occasion. If it is just a bag, why are you charging $10 for it? Why are you putting down your own product before...
Read moreSmall store, good selection, friendly staff. This paper goods store can be easy to miss, a wood door entrance on Spring street between the Nike and Moma stores. They have a large selection of witty cards, a wide variety of wrapping papers (by rolls or sheets), gift bags and assorted items for gift wrapping, as well as crafting items towards the back of the store. The selection of novelty gift items is on the witty end of things. The "cute" items lack the overt saccharin approach commonly seen in stores of this type - not the cute that throws you into an existential crisis of meaning of self and society. Overall, a good place to get the stuff you need for packaging gifts and crafting then to a higher...
