NYC|Long Island|Lavender By The Bay Calverton
If you're not obsessed with farming, bees, or lavender scent, visiting this Long Island lavender farm from midday to sunset in July might be... questionable 🙊 🌿 The Downsides 🌿 🚗 Exhausting Drive: ~1.5-2 hours from most NYC areas. (Fine if road-tripping, but not worth a special trip.) 🎁 Meh Souvenirs: 95% of merch is sold at Union Square’s farmer’s market or online. 🐝 Bees on Overtime: They’re friendly but BUSY. You’ll see bumblebees (fluffy like the 🐝 emoji!) and learn about worker bees/queens. They won’t sting unless provoked, but insect-phobes beware—stick to the paths! 🪲 Nightmare Beetles: Not fireflies—these cling to skin and hurt when removed. 🌌 No Fireflies: We missed them by going daytime. Tip: Visit at dusk after rain for golden hour + fireflies. ☀️ Brutal Heat: Even at 5:30 PM, the sun was blinding. Not ideal for photos. 📷 Camera Skills Required: Phones struggle. A zoom lens helps (no bee-disturbing needed). Some bloggers bring bubbles/ring lights/bouquets for shots. 💜 The Upsides 💜 🌸 Lavender Overload: The scent hits you instantly—like walking into mild lavender ice cream. 🫧 🛍️ Great Products: Live lavender plants, pre-cut bundles (UK vs. French varieties), and iced drinks for sale. 🌿 Massive Fields: Blooms are lush (but monochromatic). Has photo props, benches, and serene seating spots (if cooler). ✨ Clean Restrooms: Rare for farms! ☺️ Friendly Staff: Learn about bees + farming in a chill, educational vibe. 🦆 Nearby Charm: A quaint American town + a cute duck awaits. #NYC #SummerVibes #LavenderFarm #LongIsland #WeekendGetaway
