Travel | Colombo’s Granbell Hotel – A Mixed Bag
🇲🇻✈️🇱🇰 Had a one-night layover in Colombo and opted for the viral Granbell Hotel (since my cheap ticket didn’t include free transit lodging). Here’s the brutally honest review after staying with my family: ✅ The Good 1️⃣ Prime Location Right next to Kollupitiya Railway Station—ocean-view rooms directly face the iconic “sea train”! Easy Uber/PickMe access to attractions like Galle Face Green. 2️⃣ Japanese-Inspired Design High ceilings, bathtubs with ocean views, and a non-curry-heavy breakfast buffet (a relief for spice-averse travelers). 3️⃣ Rooftop Infinity Pool Golden Hour Hack: Visit at 6:30 AM—empty except for a couple of sunrise-chasing foreigners. Perfect for NoCrowdShot 📸. ❌ The Not-So-Good 1️⃣ Questionable Room Assignments? Asked for a higher floor (train noise concerns), but got Level 6—where you can hear every choo-choo 🚂. Observation: White guests seemed to score 15+ floor rooms. Coincidence? 🤔 2️⃣ Safety Oversights Slippery shower floors (leftover soap residue)—my dad and kid almost wiped out. Not ideal for families/elders. 📌 Final Verdict "Instagrammable? Yes. A ‘good’ hotel? Not yet." Best for: Young travelers chasing aesthetic pools & train views. Skip if: You value sound sleep, safety, or consistent service. #ColomboHotels #MixedReviews #InfinityPoolVibes #TrainSpotting #TravelTruths
