๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Touring Manitoba's Legislative Building ๐Ÿ“

Amid Manitoba's provincial election buzz, our school organized a tour of this historic landmark! ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Let's Mark some intriguing facts: ๐Ÿ” Built 1913-1920, the Manitoba Legislative Building serves as the province's political hubโ€”a heritage site, symbol of political culture, and Winnipeg icon. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ ๐Ÿ’ธ Fun fact: Originally budgeted at $300M CAD (a fortune back then!), it was supposed to take 5 years. But the designer, not being from Winnipeg, underestimated our brutal winters โ„๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ. Construction halted completely in the cold, causing a 2-year delay. Rumor has it officials even stole building materials and pillars! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ”จ ๐Ÿ‚ Inside highlights: Two life-sized bronze bisons dominate the entranceโ€”imported via France ๐Ÿ—ผ to NYC ๐Ÿ—ฝ, then finally to Winnipeg! The central hall blends Roman columns, Greek motifs, and Egyptian pentagrams ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ. Mysterious 13s everywhere: Architects included the "unlucky" number in designs (step on it daily to ward off bad luck! ๐Ÿ€). The Egyptian pentagram is symmetrical from any angleโ€”mind-blowing! ๐ŸŒŸ ๐ŸŽจ Chambers & Art: The reception hall boasts crystal chandeliers ๐Ÿ’Ž and portraits of King George V, Queen Mary, Elizabeth II, and Prince Philip. ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ The legislative chamber is a classic circular setup with opposing benches and a central speaker's podium. Look up for Greek mythology murals symbolizing justice and equality โš–๏ธ. Bonus: A massive bison statue flanked by Medusa (east) and Athena (west) overhead! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ›๏ธ ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Golden Boy: The dome's crowning glory is the 5.25m, 24K gold-plated "Eternal Youth" (locals call him Golden Boy ๐Ÿ‘ฆ). Modeled after Hermes, he holds a torch ๐Ÿ”ฅ and wheat sheaf ๐ŸŒพโ€”Winnipeg's unofficial mascot! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Architectural style: Neo-classical, but admittedlyโ€ฆ plain compared to European grandeur ๐Ÿ˜…. Post-Baroque minimalism? Let's blame the 1920s' shift from opulence to simplicity. (Medieval Europe had it easyโ€”Canada wasn't even born yet! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ˜‰) That's all I absorbed from the tour! Corrections welcomeโ€”drop your facts below! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ“š #Winnipeg #ManitobaPolitics #LegislativeBuilding ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿโ„๏ธ
