【LA Food】Marché Moderne — Beaten Up by French Cuisine❗️

Who recommended Marché Moderne in Newport Beach? Guys, this restaurant is seriously disappointing — low value for the price, and the food was just… not it 🤔 Maybe it’s because I’m uncultured, but here’s my honest take after getting knocked out by Marché Moderne: I originally checked the menu and wanted to try the duck, but when we arrived, I found out that the entire Valentine’s Day weekend offered only a limited special menu! The regular menu wasn’t available 😂 The options were super limited — for example, there was only one appetizer choice. Let’s start with what was barely okay: 🎀 Appetizer - Truffle Grilled Octopus: The two grilled shrimp were pretty good. The mashed potatoes seemed mixed with arrowroot, slightly sweet but very smooth. The octopus leg was just meh — pretty bland. 🎀 Main Course - Angus Filet Mignon + Braised Short Rib: This dish combined two types of beef. The steak was decent, similar to what you’d get elsewhere. 🫨🫨🫨 Now for the wild parts: 🫨 Appetizer - Scallop Sashimi: This was the most complicated dish I’ve ever eaten. One bite had all the flavors you could imagine — sweet, sour, salty, spicy, umami… There was even a strawberry jelly in it. I still can’t figure out how this was invented. 🫨 Main Course - Provençal Seafood Soup: The broth had almost no flavor. It included one piece each of lobster, scallop, octopus, mussel, and monkfish. The broth didn’t balance the seafood’s fishiness — one sip, and it felt like every fish in Newport was swimming in my mouth 😅 Avoid it❗️ Avoid it❗️ 😑 Appetizer - Duck Liver Mousse & Foie Gras Pie: Nothing special, kinda greasy, and the bread was so hard — as hard as my cold heart. 😑 Dessert - Chocolate Soufflé Cake & Raspberry Pistachio Cake: Both were super sweet… way too sweet. The value for money was also low — $500 for two people? Yikes 😑 Let’s just call it a… unique experience. Maybe it’s because I’m “uncultured,” or maybe the Valentine’s menu was bad while the regular menu is good… but I’m definitely not coming back❗️ 😅 Marché Moderne 📍 7862 Pacific Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92657 Have you been here?
