đșïž Day 10: 16-Country Europe Tour (31) â PĂ©cs, Hungary đđș
odayâs journey was fascinating! Starting from Vukovar, Croatia (the "Martial City" đ„), passing through Vinkovci (the "Literary City" đ), we arrived at PĂ©cs, Hungaryâfittingly completing the "martial + literary" combo! đ Coincidentally, PĂ©cs is an ancient university town đ, home to one of Europe's oldest universities. âš First Impressions: We happened to visit on a Hungarian revolutionary holiday đ, so the city felt eerily quietâlocals were all on vacation, leaving only tourists wandering the streets. The architecture, with its ochre-colored walls and dome-like structures, gave off a vibe reminiscent of Chinaâs northern frontier đïž. đïž About PĂ©cs: đ Nestled between the Danube and Drava Rivers, PĂ©cs is Hungaryâs cultural and artistic capital đ, famed for: PĂ©cs University (founded in 1367, one of Europeâs oldest! đ) Stunning museums and the best Ottoman-era ruins in Hungary đ A thriving music, opera, and ballet scene đ¶ Zsolnay ceramicsâa local specialty since the 19th century đș đĄ Fun History: Over 2,000 years ago, Romans built a major city here called Sopianae (now PĂ©cs). Legend says Hungarians descend from the Xiongnu (Huns) đčâa nomadic people who once roamed northern China before migrating west. Today, theyâre the only Europeans who, like Chinese, put surnames first! đ„ą đ Highlights & Quirks: Ottoman Influence: Minarets, Turkish baths, and fusion architecture everywhere! Silent Streets: Thanks to the holiday, we had the city (almost) to ourselves! Ceramic Magic: Donât miss the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter âš #TravelDiaries #Hungary #PĂ©cs #CulturalGem #OffTheBeatenPath đâïž
