Split, the second-largest city in Croatia 🇭🇷, is steeped in history and was once a major city during the Roman period 🏛️. Its development is closely linked to an emperor of ancient Rome—Diocletian 🫅—who built his retirement palace by the sea after abdicating, the Diocletian's Palace ⚜️. It is also one of the most completely preserved sites of an ancient Roman palace in Europe and around the world 🪨. 📝 About the Itinerary: I stayed in Split for 3 nights and share how to spend 2 full days 👆 Day 1️⃣ - Split Old Town City Walk 👣 The Split Old Town is not large and is perfect for a city walk 🚶. The Diocletian's Palace is intertwined with the old town, and you can unknowingly walk to the palace ruins during your stroll. As you wander through the city, you'll see the perfect fusion of ancient buildings with cafes, restaurants, and guesthouses 💕. In the afternoon, head to the seafront promenade for coffee and sunbathing ☕️. This is definitely the most relaxing moment of a vacation ☀️. Day 2️⃣ - Day Trip to Hvar Island 🐟 Instead of considering island hopping 🏝️, I bought a separate ferry ticket to Hvar. This small island is truly beautiful and not crowded. For more details, you can refer to my previous Hvar travel guide ✔️. 😋 About the Cuisine: 1️⃣ Zlatna ribica (Fried Small Fish, Shrimp, Squid 🦑) I ordered the recommended platter, and my favorite was the shrimp 🦐. The red fish is similar to the texture of our small yellow croaker, which is tender. The black fish is more like a saba fish. The restaurant is very popular. Recommendation Index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 2️⃣ Konoba Marjan (Freshly Caught Fish Daily 🐟) Recommended by the apartment front desk, I went on my first night to taste the local fish. A large fish is enough for two people, and the waiter will help you remove the bones. The fresh grilled fish sprinkled with lemon juice 🍋 is tender and delicious, but it's a bit expensive. This fish weighed 85 euros. Recommendation Index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 3️⃣ Basta (Great Pizza 🍕) Also recommended by the apartment front desk, with a high rating on Google, located by the sea, and very cost-effective. The pizza is delicious, and two people can easily share one if they don't have a big appetite. It's a 5-minute walk from the old town, and there's an indoor parking lot downstairs 🅿️. The apartment guests are 15 euros per day.
