🏞️ Haha Tonka State Park: A Missouri Hidden Gem
🏰 Castle Ruins: A Story of Dreams and Tragedy The iconic Ha Ha Tonka Castle Ruins (located at Natural Bridge Rd, Camdenton, MO 65020) tell a hauntingly beautiful story: History: Built in the early 1900s by Kansas businessman Robert M. Snyder, who envisioned a European-style castle overlooking the lake. Tragically, he died in a car accident before its completion, and his son finished the project in the 1920s. Twists of Fate: The castle served as a summer home, then a hotel, before burning down in 1942. The state acquired it in 1978 and opened it to the public. Today: While parts of the ruins are stabilized, sections like the arches face erosion risks (some areas are closed for safety). Still, the stone walls and water tower (restored in 2004) offer breathtaking views and photo ops! 📸 🌊 Natural Wonders Missouri’s 12th Largest Spring: Emerald-green waters feed into the lake—perfect for kayaking or simply admiring. 🛶💧 Trails for All Levels: Well-marked paths with clear distance/time estimates (e.g., Spring Trail, Colosseum Trail). Our favorite was the Devil’s Kitchen—a cave-like formation with eerie vibes! 😈 Scenic Overlooks: Don’t miss the Natural Bridge—a massive limestone arch formed by ancient rivers. 🧺 Picnic & Relaxation We spread our blanket near the spring—the sound of flowing water and rustling leaves made for a serene lunch spot. Pack sandwiches, local cheeses, and a thermos of coffee! ☕🍎 📌 Visitor Tips Entry: Free! Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Wear: Sturdy shoes—some trails are rocky or steep. Nearby: Combine with a visit to Lake of the Ozarks for a full day of fun. #HahaTonka #Missouri #StateParks #CastleRuins #Hiking #WeekendGetaway
