๐๏ธ Japan | South Izu ๐ก One-Day Tour ๐
South Izu is at the southernmost part of Izu, and the attractions here are quite scattered. It takes half an hour to travel by train from East Izu to South Izu, and even longer from Tokyo, so it's definitely necessary to arrange accommodation in Izu when visiting. We planned 1 day in East Izu + 1 day in South Izu. ๐ Transportation: Take the Izu Kyuko train to Izu-Kyukamura Station. The train station offers a South Izu 2-day tour ticket for free bus rides. We calculated that for just visiting two attractions, it's not cost-effective to buy this ticket for the round-trip bus, so we used our Suica card to pay for the bus rides. ๐ Attractions: Due to limited time, we only visited two classic attractions, Shirosaki and Shirahama Beach. ๐ Route: Izu-Kyukamura Station From Ito Station to Izu-Kyukamura Station, take the Izu Kyuko line, which takes about an hour to arrive. If you're traveling independently, this train station is the central point for touring South Izu. Each attraction is reached by bus, returning via the same route, and then moving on to the next attraction. ๐ Shirosaki The bus ride from Izu-Kyukamura Station to Shirosaki takes about an hour. Shirahama Beach is closer to Izu-Kyukamura Station, making the return bus easier to catch, so we decided to go to Shirosaki first. Navigate to Shirosaki. After getting off the bus, there's a small rest area. Walk through the rest area and continue downwards; the path will lead you there. Shirosaki is the southernmost cliff of Izu. The attraction itself is a vantage point for viewing the cliffs and the ocean, and you can see the jellyfish-colored sea. There are also people fishing on the distant rocks. The sea here has a somewhat turbulent feel, after all, it's at the bottom of the cliffs. After viewing, return the same way. The whole trip takes about half an hour if you walk fast, but be mindful of the bus schedule, which is hourly. We just missed a bus, so we had lunch at the rest area and took the bus back to Izu-Kyukamura Station. ๐๏ธ Shirahama Beach Navigate to Shirahama Shrine. Return to Izu-Kyukamura Station from Shirosaki, then take the bus to Shirahama Shrine, which is about 15 minutes away from the train station. This attraction consists of three parts: Shirahama Shrine + Shirahama Beach + Torii. After visiting the shrine, walk to the right side of the parking lot to reach Shirahama Beach. This is a beach with sand and sea, perfect for playing in the sand and sunbathing on a sunny day. Despite the stormy weather, there were still many people surfing in the sea! There's a small stone slope by the sea where you can climb up to see the Torii. The rain was so heavy that day, and I was drenched by the wind and rain. After a brief visit, I took shelter in a nearby cafรฉ, waiting for the bus back to Izu-Kyukamura Station before returning to our hotel in Izu. It was quite a miserable day. The overcast South Izu matched with the sea, and at Shirosaki, I saw a cruise ship drifting on the sea, giving a somewhat post-apocalyptic feel. It would be more beautiful on a sunny day. #Izu #IzuTravel #IzuTravelGuide #SouthIzu #Shirozaki #ShirahamaShrine #ShirahamaBeach #IzuTourism #IzuPeninsula #JapanIzu
