✈️ Travel Diary | Invercargill - New Zealand's Southernmost City! ❄️
This winter, I visited Invercargill for the first time! 🌏 With temperatures between 2-8°C in late July, it was cold, windy, and rainy—thermal leggings and a puffer jacket were a must! 🧥❄️ Luckily, we had sunny skies for our 1.5-day trip—what a blessing! ☀️ Here are my top recommendations for this charming southern city: 🦪 1. Bluff Must-try: A dozen Bluff oysters (famous for their annual Bluff Oyster Festival!). 🍴 Best takeaway spot: The Galley Takeaways—delicious & affordable! 🚶 Scenic coastal walks + black paua (abalone) hunting (check tides!). 🚗 2. Classic Motorcycle Mecca & Transport World Nostalgic vintage car & motorcycle museum—a dream for gearheads! 📍 491 Tay St, Hawthorndale 🌊 3. Riverton A quaint seaside town just 30 mins from downtown. ☕ Perfect for a coffee with ocean views (see my pic below!). 🌳 4. Queens Park Massive public gardens with botanical displays, a mini zoo, and a bird aviary. Fun fact: Invercargill is sister cities with Suqian, China! 🇨🇳🤝🇳🇿 🐟 5. Kings Ocean Fresh Fish Best fish & chips in town—try the Blue Cod ! 🍟 🌯 6. Turkish Kebabs Must-order: Lamb taco, chicken taco, or mixed veggie-meat wrap! 🏆 Always packed at lunch/dinner—that’s how you know it’s good! ☕ 7. Starbucks (World’s Southernmost!) Iconic photo op—how often do you sip coffee at the bottom of the world? 📸 🎬 8. Reading Cinema Rainy night? Catch a movie at this cozy downtown theater! 🍿 💖 Final Thoughts: Invercargill is a small but incredibly warm-hearted town—everyone was so friendly! 🤗 Highly recommend adding it to your NZ South Island itinerary. #NZTravel #Invercargill #SouthIslandNZ #WinterGetaway #BluffOysters #TravelDiaries
