Mandalay has the highest cost of living in Myanmar, with many entertainment options and large shopping malls. You can also fly out from Mandalay to other destinations. 📍 Accommodation 「Ostello Bello Mandalay」 💰 Walk-in rates are cheaper. Mixed dormitory rooms with no privacy curtains on beds. Private bathroom included. Breakfast provided. Located near Mandalay Palace, with a rooftop bar offering sunset views. 📍 Attractions Attractions are spread out. We selected a few key spots (1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣) and negotiated with a tuk-tuk driver for 30,000 MMK/person (the horse cart in Inwa Ancient City is an additional cost). ⚠️ Hot weather—bring water! 1️⃣ Monk Meal (Thousand Monk Alms Offering) Free entry. Essentially watching monks line up for meals. Arrive early if interested. ⚠️ Dress modestly, remove shoes before entering temples. 2️⃣ U Bein Bridge Free entry. A long wooden bridge over water, with vendors selling snacks and henna tattoos. ⚠️ Windy—bring sun protection! 3️⃣ Inwa (Ava) Ancient City A tuk-tuk takes you to the edge of the ancient city, then a horse cart tour (12,500 MMK/person). Most sites are free; paid ones are announced in advance. ⚠️ Due to conflict, the tour was limited to safe areas. If you’ve seen enough pagodas in Bagan, you might skip this. 4️⃣ Shwenandaw Monastery (Golden Palace Monastery, Teak Monastery) Entry: 15,000 MMK. A small but exquisitely carved teakwood temple—highly recommended! ⚠️ Mandalay’s palace combo ticket may include this attraction. 📍 Massage 「Innwa Healthy & Spa」 💰 Full-body traditional massage + single-color pedicure: 65,000 MMK. A must-try—different from Thai massage but equally intense. Pricier than elsewhere in Myanmar, but the spa is clean and the staff professional. ⚠️ No tipping required. The pedicure is similar in price to China but considered expensive locally. 📍 Transportation 1️⃣ Within the City Use Grab (cash payment). 2️⃣ To Yangon Buy bus tickets in advance at the station (JJ Express). ⚠️ For flights out of Yangon, see Yangon Transportation Guide. The bus station is close to the airport—just take a taxi. 3️⃣ To Other Countries ⚠️ Cheapest flights from Myanmar are to Malaysia or Thailand.
