๐ฆ๐บ Darwin Adventure โ Kakadu National Park ๐
"If you love crocodiles, come to Kakadu โ itโs heaven. If you hate them, stay away โ itโs hell." โ A Sydneysider in Kakadu Kakadu National Park, located 3 hours west of Darwin, spans 20,000 kmยฒ of rivers, vast plains, and ancient rock formations. This UNESCO World Heritage site has preserved its wild beauty for millennia. On my first day in Darwin, I joined a small-group day tour (only 8 people!) to Kakadu. We visited two iconic spots: ๐๏ธ Ubirr: Home to ancient Indigenous rock art galleries and stunning sandstone landscapes. The famous Narmarrkan Sisters painting tells a legendary story linked to crocodiles โ a tale of curse and spiritual significance. We hiked up the rocky trail (steep but worth it!) to the summit. Only 4 of us + the guide made it! From the top: panoramic views of the floodplains ๐๏ธ. In wet season, this area floods and closes to visitors. We even spotted a mini tornado swirling in the distance! ๐ช๏ธ Another rock art site featured the Rainbow Serpent โ a creation guardian spirit in Indigenous culture. ๐ Cahills Crossing: A famous saltwater crocodile habitat! We saw 4 crocs sunbathing on the riverbank and 2 lurking in the water. Our guide warned: Never attempt to cross this river โ salties are aggressive and dangerous. Crocs thrive not only in rivers but also in wetlands like Fogg Dam (visited earlier), where lilies and water plants hide more of these ancient predators. Kakadu is truly a crocodileโs paradise โ raw, wild, and unforgettable! #Kakadu #DarwinTravel #Australia #Wilderness #CrocodileAdventure #IndigenousCulture #OffTheBeatenPath
