If you hate them, stay away β itβs hell." β A Sydneysider in Nitmiluk Nitmiluk National Park, located 3.5 hours south of Darwin, borders Kakadu and is carved by rivers into stunning gorges β a paradise for canyon lovers! On the last day of our trip, we joined a guided tour to explore Nitmiluk, focusing on the Katherine Gorge boat cruise. π Journey Highlights: Stopped at Pine Tree β a quaint gold rush-era town with preserved mining machinery ποΈ. Tried homemade ice cream at a local shop β delicious! π¦ Swam at Edith Falls β crystal-clear, refreshing waters under the sun π¦. Regret: Missed the upper falls due to time constraints π’ π€ Katherine Gorge Boat Cruise: Departed at 2 PM β perfect timing! Glided through serene waters between towering cliffs ποΈ. Spotted a freshwater crocodile basking on a sandbank β smaller and less aggressive than saltwater crocs π. Two boat segments with a 400m jungle walk in between πΌ: Saw vibrant yellow flowers contrasting with red rocks πΈ Admired Indigenous rock art on cliffs (abstract but fascinating!) π¨ π Wild Buffalo Encounters: Spotted 3-4 groups of wild buffalo grazing roadside on the return trip π. Fun fact: Buffalo were introduced from Southeast Asia post-WWII for labor, then released into the wild.
