πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ Does Ghent Have Good Food?

Absolutely! I'd like to recommend a gem of a restaurant I discovered by chance during my trip to Ghent – Je m’en fish. The name itself is a playful nod to French humor, "Je m’en fish" which seems casual on the surface, as if saying "I don't care," but their culinary offerings are anything but a joke. Each dish is crafted with precision and creativity that reflects their dedication and flair. Some say that when in Belgium, one must try mussels. On a Sunday night, we were scouring the streets for a place to enjoy mussels, looking to avoid the touristy restaurants by the churches and find a genuine local spot. That's when we stumbled upon Je m’en fish, and it turned out to be the place where I had the most astonishing mussels of my life! Dish Recommendations: β€’ No.1 Must-Try: Mussels This dish is the crown jewel of the restaurant. The mussels are cooked exceptionally well, with a rich broth that blends the fresh aroma of white wine, the richness of cream, the complex layers of curry, and a slight kick from chili peppers. As someone who doesn't usually enjoy mussels, I couldn't help but finish every last drop of the broth. I thought to myself, this broth would be delicious with a baguette for dipping or even over some noodles. β€’ πŸ¦ͺ Oysters Incredibly fresh! A serving of three, very sweet and delicate. Garnished with fish roe, they melt in your mouth. β€’ 🐟 Ceviche This dish is a great palate cleanser. The tangy flavor perfectly whets the appetite before the main course, and it pairs wonderfully with beer! In addition to the food, the waitstaff added a lot to the experience. The waiter was very enthusiastic, fluent in English, and patient in both introducing dishes and conversing. Before the meal, he kindly reminded us that the portions were small, leading me to ask, "Is it like Tapas?" The waiter smiled and said, "Kind of, usually one person needs to order 2-3 dishes to be full." Following his recommendation, we ordered 6 dishes and cleaned our plates! The cost per person was around 35-40 euros, which I'd say is great value for the quality. πŸ“ Address: Koophandelsplein 32, 9000 Ghent, Belgium A gentle reminder: This restaurant has limited seating, so it's recommended to make a reservation in advance. We were fortunate to get the last window seat without a reservation, but several walk-in guests were politely turned away during our meal. I felt so lucky as I enjoyed the food. During my journey in Belgium, good food was more than just a means of sustenance; it was a series of delightful surprises encountered in the city. Perhaps whenever I think of mussels in the future, I'll be reminded of this beautiful trip to Ghent and the warm atmosphere of this restaurant. #Ghent #GhentFood #Mussels #MustEatInGhent #Belgium #BelgiumTravel #GhentTravel #FoodSharing #TravelFoodMemories
