🇨🇦 Waterloo's Only Late-Night Food Legend Sharing a great late-night spot in Waterloo—Next Door Lao Wang, a Chinese restaurant open until 4 AM! From double pepper fish head, tomato beef brisket, pan-fried dumplings, chive boxes, cold-cut beef, to steamed eggs... Even though I usually don’t like staple foods, there are so many dishes here that make my mouth water. I tried the green pepper mashed with century egg yesterday, and it was amazing—had to share it with everyone! 🍲 Lamb Soup 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Lamb soup with flatbread is so fragrant! We didn’t add any spice, and sipping the warm lamb soup in big gulps felt so cozy. It’s hands down the most authentic lamb soup I’ve had in Waterloo. 🥟 Pan-Fried Dumplings 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is a staple I absolutely love, even as someone who avoids rice. I crave it every midnight! The dumplings have a thin, crispy crust that’s incredibly tasty. Dip them in their secret chili vinegar sauce—it’s so flavorful, you have to try it! 🌶️ Spicy Beef 🌟🌟🌟 The spicy beef comes in huge chunks and is a favorite of my friend’s. It’s a bit too spicy for me, but the meat is tender and well-marinated. If you can handle spice, go for it without hesitation! 🫑 Green Pepper Mashed with Century Egg 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I’d avoided this dish because it sounds spicy, but it’s actually not—and it’s super satisfying! Similar to cold mixed eggplant 🍆, it has a tangy, slightly spicy flavor. The green peppers are soft and well-seasoned, and when mixed with the century egg, it’s rich and mellow in every bite. As someone who loves sour and spicy flavors, Lao Wang’s sauce hits exactly the right note! Zongzi 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Dragon Boat Festival is coming up, and since we’re regulars, the owner gave us two zongzi made by his wife. They’re red bean paste-filled, beautifully wrapped, and taste just like the ones my mom makes at home. ✍️ Overall, so many dishes here are delicious with perfect seasoning! There are both bold and mild flavors, and almost nothing disappoints.
