šØš¦ Waterloo | A Western Restaurant
Today, Iām introducing a really interesting restaurant called State & Main-Waterloo. What makes it fun? It serves tons of Asian dishes adapted to local tastesāand surprisingly, theyāre pretty good! There are quite a few Westernized Chinese and Japanese dishes worth checking out. š DRAGON BOAT LETTUCE WRAPS š„¬ The name alone sounds so Chinese! Itās stir-fried veggies and noodles wrapped in lettuce leaves. The filling includes stir-fried snow peas, chicken, fried noodles, and mushroomsāall savory and flavorful. It comes with hoisin sauce and peanut sauce to drizzle on top before wrapping it up in crisp lettuce. The freshness of the veggies, crunch of the fried noodles, and chewiness of the chicken and mushrooms? Chefās kiss. Definitely worth a try! SOUP DUMPLINGS š„ Any Chinese person will immediately recognize these as frozen xiaolongbao (soup dumplings)āthe name is refreshingly straightforward! But hereās the Western twist: the pork dumplings are smothered in sweet chili sauce and chili oil, then topped with shredded carrots and fried garlic. The flavor is wildly complexāso funny but somehow works! š STEAK & SUSHI š„©š£ Sliced tenderloin steak soaks in a sesame-ginger-soy sauce, which is savory with a hint of ginger and a subtle tang. The downside? The beef cut has a lot of tough tendons. But the seasoning is solid! Then thereās the tuna sushi: itās drizzled with chili oil (so good!) and the sushi rice is fried, making it crispy and oily in the best way. BOURBON PEPPERCORN NEW YORK š„ A New York strip steak drizzled with bourbon peppercorn sauce. This oneās a winner! The bourbon gives the sauce a sweeter, richer flavor than regular whiskey saucesāalmost like a creamy yellow curry, but with a kick. Oh, and their fries? Perfectly crispy. So good! š The interior is clean, and thereās a spacious bar area too. š¹ Address: L01-578 Weber St N, Waterloo, ON N2L 0C7, Canada #WaterlooFood #WaterlooLife
