🇨🇦 Where to Go This Weekend | 2-Day Trip to Winnipeg
Right after work on Friday, I rushed to the airport and flew to Winnipeg—the capital of Manitoba, one of Canada’s prairie provinces—for a two-and-a-half-day special ops-style city tour! 🚀 Winnipeg is a mid-sized city with a population of 840,000 (2023), located on the floodplain where the Red River and Assiniboine River meet. 🌊🏙️ In the early 20th century, it was once the third-largest city in Canada. However, its status gradually declined after other canals opened. The city is compact with relatively concentrated attractions—2-3 days are enough to cover all the popular spots! 🏛️ Manitoba Museum A must-visit museum! From Indigenous culture to hunting skills, from the paleontological era to the Age of Exploration, each exhibit tells a unique story. ✊ Canadian Museum for Human Rights If time allows, highly recommend the free guided tour! The architectural design of the museum is also fascinating. 🐾 Assiniboine Park Zoo Besides "common" animals, there are many unique ones too—adorable Arctic foxes, lynxes, cougars, kangaroos, and I was lucky enough to see a polar bear foraging underwater! 🐻❄️ Winnipeg Zoo has seven polar bears, so there’s a high chance of seeing these (goofy) bears in different moods. 🌳 The Pavilion at Assiniboine Park Located very close to the zoo, it’s perfect to visit together. This small museum has several galleries with free admission. There’s a cute Winnie-the-Pooh exhibit that takes about 5 minutes to explore. 🧸 ⛪ Saint Boniface Cathedral & Saint-Boniface University A magnificent cathedral facing the Human Rights Museum across the river. It’s one of Winnipeg’s most distinctive landmarks. 🏘️ Chinatown & the Historic District North of downtown lies a historic area with many unique apartment buildings. The weathered exteriors look especially charming under the sunlight. If time allows, walk from downtown to Chinatown—you’ll witness the layered changes in the city’s style. 🚶 DT City Walk The roads are wide—mostly six-lane bidirectional with green plants in the middle. The buildings aren’t very tall, but the greenery is abundant. Many locals jog in the morning. The early spring sunshine feels warm and healing. ☀️🌿 #Winnipeg #Manitoba #Canada #ShortTrip ✈️📸🍁
