🇩🇪 One-Day Trip to Marburg, the Birthplace of Grimm's Fairy Tales

I believe everyone’s childhood holds memories of Grimm's Fairy Tales. This time, while in Hesse, I made a special trip to Marburg, where the fairy tales were born. 🚄 It’s just an hour’s train ride from Frankfurt. This time, I traveled from Gießen and arrived in about 20 minutes. 1️⃣ German Fairy Tale Route (Deutsche Märchenstraße) Strolling along the Fairy Tale Route, you’ll find sculptures of The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats 🐺, Snow White’s high heels 👠, the frog from The Frog Prince 🐸, and a colorful Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house 🍬. Surprises await at every turn—it’s truly full of whimsy! Each iconic spot along the route features an information board about the Brothers Grimm stories, complete with a QR code. Scanning it lets you read the tales and check the tour route. (You can also open the "attractions" feature on Google Maps to see all the check-in spots.) 2️⃣ Colorful Half-Timbered Houses (Fachwerkhaus) Marburg’s main attractions are concentrated in the old town, where you’ll see many German-style houses in different styles and colors. Climbing up to the castle offers a panoramic view of the surroundings, and the square nearby is lined with charming little shops to explore. 3️⃣ University of Marburg (Philipps-Universität Marburg) Founded in 1527, it’s the world’s second-oldest Protestant university. The Brothers Grimm once studied here, where they created and compiled Grimm's Fairy Tales. 4️⃣ St. Elizabeth’s Church (Elisabethkirche) The architectural prototype for Cologne Cathedral and Germany’s oldest Gothic cathedral. 🌟 Tips: Remember to take the train to Marburg (Lahn) station, which is closer to the city center. The town is small—you can explore it all on foot in less than half a day. Marburg has more stairs than flat ground, and the old town is full of cobblestone paths and slopes. Wear comfortable shoes and avoid carrying heavy things. It’s often cloudy and rainy, so bring a windbreaker or an umbrella. ☔ #TravelMusings #Germany #GermanTravel #Marburg #GrimmsFairyTales #SummerInEurope #EuropeTravel
