🇩🇪 Passau, Germany|Climbing to the Castle
First off, this little city by the Danube is pretty charming — highly recommend it for a day trip if you’re in the area! ⚠️ But heads up: If you’re heading up to the castle for the three-river viewpoint, DO NOT follow Google Maps (see the big red ❌ on the map). It said “6-min walk”… Lies! After asking around and finally finding the right path (thanks to the sign in 🧭), it took me almost 30 minutes of climbing! On the way down, I found another route (blue line). It’s not stairs, but the slope is crazy steep 🚵 — you’d have to push a bike up, and it’s not much easier. There’s also a parking lot up there with an elevator (must be nice for those with cars 😒). Oh, and apparently there’s a shuttle from the airport? (I don’t speak German — Google it yourself if you need 🚌… though I doubt any of us are flying into Passau anyway lol!) At the top, there’s a small square with free toilets (key info! 🚽), some benches to rest, and a €5 exhibition + viewing platform (all those perfect three-river shots you see online are taken here). I skipped the exhibition — not because €5 is a lot, but the brochure made it look kinda meh. You can see the river confluence perfectly fine from the delta park below — shaded, relaxing, and totally free 😎🌳. Pro tip: river confluences are cool and all, but let’s be real — the Ilz River looks… questionable. Not all that blue 💧😂. Last pic: me, dressed for rain (thanks, weather app 🌦️), sweating buckets under the blazing sun while climbing up to the castle.
