๐ฌ๐ง Cambridge โ Ely Town
We stayed in Cambridge for 4 days and spent one day exploring the lovely town of Ely! ๐ Took a morning train from Cambridge Station โ less than 20 minutes to reach Ely. Bought a round-trip ticket for ยฃ23 per person. Departed at 10 AM and returned around 2 PM. ๐ From Ely Station, follow the signs to the city center ๐ถโโ๏ธ. Passed pretty houses and a huge park with towering oak trees full of acorns ๐ณ โ reminded us of the acorn from Ice Age! ๐ โช Followed the signs to the cathedral โ very clear and friendly, even showing restroom locations. Entry to the cathedral costs ยฃ14, but you can still admire the structure and atmosphere in the entrance hall for free. The porch features a chapel and a display about St. Etheldreda, with beautiful artwork created by local schoolchildren ๐โจ. Ely Cathedral has a different style than Kingโs College Chapel but is equally impressive. It feels ancient, with moss growing on the outer walls โ full of history! ๐ฝ๏ธ Right next to the cathedral is The Almonry โ a lovely place for lunch or tea ๐ซ. We had scones (so good!), duck salad with pomegranate and rocket ๐ฅ, and a pot of black tea with milk that made the perfectโ better than any bubble tea Iโve had! Highly recommend for the food, vibe, and view ๐. The prices were very reasonable too! ๐๏ธ Outside the restaurant is a shopping street with cute boutiques selling perfumes, clothes, ice cream, cakes ๐ฐ, and more. ๐ Walked south along the street to the river โ saw boats ๐ค and people fishing ๐ฃ. Followed the riverside path all the way back to the station. It was a relaxed, comfortable, and charming little town escape ๐. #Travel #UK #Cambridge #Ely #Cathedral #UKTrains
