šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ Cambridge in Early Summer is So Beautiful

Oxford and Cambridge are both academic hubs and tourist cities, yet they offer very different vibes. While both are historic, each has its own unique charm—Cambridge is more elegant and understated, while Oxford feels grander and more solemn.šŸ‘Œ Most attractions in Cambridge are concentrated in the city center and within walking distance, making a one-day city walk totally feasible.😁 This is the punting location šŸ›¶. You’ll see many people holding signs offering rides—the initial price is around Ā£40 per adult, but don’t hesitate to bargain! If they refuse to lower the price, just say you’ll try another vendor—they’ll likely stop you. Aim for Ā£20 or even lower. Punting is a must-do in Cambridge, especially on a sunny day—it’s super relaxing! Many of the punters are Cambridge students. The ride starts and ends at the same point and takes about 45 minutes. You’ll pass by famous colleges, libraries, academic buildings, and bridges, all with detailed historical commentary. This includes the renowned Bridge of Sighs, and the boat turns back at the Mathematical Bridge. šŸ“ and šŸ“: Trinity College (the richest college in Cambridge) and the apple tree where Newton discovered the law of universal gravity. The tree is right at the entrance—no ticket needed. šŸ“ and šŸ“: King’s College and its chapel, iconic symbols of Cambridge. Book tickets online in advance (Ā£17.5 per person). You can also walk to the back to see the River Cam and the stone inscription of Xu Zhimo’s ā€œFarewell to Cambridge.ā€ I think it’s worth visiting—the chapel is solemn and majestic, with stunning large stained-glass windows. ā° The Corpus Clock: Unveiled by Stephen Hawking, it features a grasshopper ā€œdevouring timeā€ to remind people of its passage. It has no hands or numbers—instead, time is displayed via blue LED lights. šŸ½ļø Restaurant Recommendation: Bread & Meat Surprisingly, I haven’t seen it recommended much on Xiaohongshu, but everyone—Chinese, British, and Italian—loves it! Everything we tried was delicious, and it’s budget-friendly at around Ā£15 per person. Check out the menu in Figure 17. I ordered the Philly cheese steak with poutine—the beef gravy was a bit salty (I kept drinking water all afternoon šŸ˜‚), but it was tasty! The beef was incredibly tender, like slow-cooked Chinese beef, and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming at all. Their ciabatta is also famous—my boyfriend’s honey soy chicken ciabatta was amazing too. šŸØ The famous Jack’s Gelato is right next door. The flavors change daily, and you’ll see them while queuing. Two scoops for Ā£4.9—the Milk & Brownie and Baked Vanilla are both great choices. šŸ›ļø The Fitzwilliam Museum: No reservation needed, and it’s free! It houses an extensive collection of art and artifacts, including ancient Egyptian sarcophagi, Greek pottery, and classic paintings by European masters. Allow about an hour for your visit. #UKTravel #Cambridge #CambridgeUniversity #CambridgeDayTrip #CambridgePunting
