🇬🇧 London to Cambridge Day Trip — Super Budget-Friendly Itinerary 💷
Day 3 in the UK brought us to Cambridge with my parents! After comparing private cars, trains, and tour groups, we chose the train—best decision ever! 🚆 🎫 Transport Hacks (SAVE BIG❗️): ✅ Buy tickets on-site at King’s Cross Station Go to the counter and ask for: "Off-Peak Day Return" — only £22 per person (≈ ¥216 round trip)! 📌 Trainline app charged ~¥400, and Ctrip was even pricier. ✅ Off-Peak = flexible return Depart after 9:30 AM 🕤, return ANYTIME that same day! ⏰ Timeline (Parent-Friendly & Tested): 1️⃣ Walked from hotel to King’s Cross 🚶♂️ Took the 9:40 AM train to Cambridge ℹ️ (Platform info shown on station screens 10 mins before departure) 📸 The train ride offers beautiful countryside views! 2️⃣ Arrived Cambridge Station 10:40 AM → walked 20 mins to Great St Mary’s Church 🏛️ 3️⃣ 11:15 AM - Started a 1.5-hour guided tour (booked in advance, ~¥1350 for a small group) 📍 Highlights: Corpus Clock → King’s College (exterior) → Trinity College → St John’s College → Bridge of Sighs → Newton’s Apple Tree 🍎 4️⃣ 1:00 PM - Visited King’s College (£18 entry) ✅ Saw the “Farewell Cambridge” stone by Xu Zhimo 📜 5️⃣ 2:30 PM - Jack’s Gelato 🍦 → 3:00 PM McDonald’s lunch 🍔 6️⃣ 4:00 PM - Headed back to London 🚆 💬 Final Thoughts: Cambridge is small and walkable—all must-see spots are close together.
