🇮🇷 I’d Call It the Crystal Palace ✨

Shah-é-Chérāgh (شاه چراغ) is a Persian phrase meaning "King of Light," and this site is known as the Shrine of the King of Light. Located in the heart of Shiraz, it is the third most important Islamic shrine in Iran, ranking after the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad and the Fatima Masumeh Shrine in Qom. 🌟 Just when we thought we wouldn’t be able to enter the dazzling main hall of the shrine, the staff informed us that we could visit the side hall and step into this mirror-adorned chamber to witness its breathtaking beauty. 🕌✨ The Legend Behind the Name 📖 There’s a fascinating legend about the name "Shah-é-Chérāgh": An old woman claimed that she saw a bright light shining from a nearby mountain every night, but when she approached it, the light would disappear. This story reached the king, who, curious, decided to spend a night at the old woman’s house. That night, the light appeared again, and the woman woke the king. He rushed toward the light, but as he got closer, it vanished. This happened seven times throughout the night until dawn. 🌅 The next day, the king ordered the area to be excavated. To everyone’s surprise, they discovered an underground chamber with a bed and a body on it. The king then ordered the construction of a shrine at that spot and named it "Shah-é-Chérāgh"—the King of Light. 💡 The Mosque’s History 🕰️ This mosque has suffered damage from earthquakes and other causes multiple times, with the latest restoration taking place in 1958. Despite these challenges, it remains a stunning testament to Persian Islamic architecture and spirituality. 🕌💎 #Iran 🇮🇷 #ShowYouTheWorld 🌍 #IranTravel ✈️ #Travel 🧳 #Shiraz 🏰 #ShahCheragh#CrystalPalace 💎 #IslamicArchitecture 🕌 #TravelDiary 📔
