🇮🇸 Exploring Grillmarkaðurinn in Iceland: Is It Worth Multiple Visit

On our first day in Iceland, Mr. Ye and I chose Grillmarkaðurinn, a popular spot in Reykjavik, to recharge for the day. The location is a bit hidden, tucked away in a small alley, giving off a vibe of being hidden in plain sight. The restaurant was bustling with customers, so remember to make a reservation before you go. The place has a great texture and is exactly to my liking, with two floors and an open kitchen where we sat at the counter, giving us a direct view of the chefs in action. The waitstaff explains the ingredients and preparation methods for each dish, which adds a lot of ceremony to the dining experience. Overall, the flavors were quite good, making it worth a visit! We ordered the set menu, and it was more than enough to satisfy our hunger. Grilled Lamb Chops ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The main course was grilled lamb, generously portioned. It's best to eat it while it's hot as the meat can become less enjoyable once it cools. The lamb was free of any strong gamey flavors and was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. I particularly enjoyed the sauces, which came in three different flavors, adding depth and richness to the lamb. The accompanying small potatoes were a great touch, balancing the richness and adding a tender, Q-elastic texture. The seasoning was spot on, making the overall experience quite good. Grilled Fish Platter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The platter featured three different types of fish: salmon, cod, and another I can't recall the name of. Each fish was paired with different fruits and vegetables. The cod was prepared as a traditional Icelandic dish - salted cod, which had a subtle saltiness that enhanced its freshness. The cod was incredibly tender, melting in your mouth, a texture I never associated with cod before. It was a refreshing departure from the usual. The apple shreds helped to balance the saltiness, and the accompanying sauces were also quite delightful. The dish came with roasted apple puree, lobster salad, black garlic, and a shellfish sauce, making the cod's sauce a standout. Cheese-Stuffed Crab Legs ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The crab legs were indeed well-prepared, with a sweet and savory flavor. They were covered in a thick layer of cheese. The generous meat of the crab legs was fresh and elastic, but I found that finishing the entire dish alone might be a bit too rich for one person. Dessert - Lava Cake ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The chocolate sphere, when cracked, revealed an ice cream ball inside, accompanied by berry mousse and fresh fruits. The dessert was on the sweeter side, but the berries helped to balance it out, making it feel more refreshing. #DocumentingTravelFood #RestaurantExploration #AmbientRestaurants #HiddenGemRestaurants #RestaurantRecommendations #IcelandFood
