🇲🇽 Mexico City Travel Diary 🌞🏛️
On our last day in CDMX, we finally visited the Zócalo (Constitution Square) and the surrounding historic area. The giant Mexican flag flying in the square was breathtaking 🇲🇽✨, standing proudly opposite the grand Cathedral. Though I’m not religious, I make it a point to step into temples back home and churches abroad—so in we went! 🙏🕊️ Right next to the Cathedral is the Templo Mayor Museum—the Aztec archaeological site. Even though it was Monday and the museum was closed, the outdoor ruins were still accessible and awe-inspiring 🧱🌵. The whole historic district is huge—every corner leads to another church, plaza, or museum. Along the way, we passed the Palacio de Bellas Artes 🎭, the Museum of Art, the National Post Office 🏤, and Casa de los Azulejos (The House of Tiles). Walking through this area felt just like being in Spain—Mexico City is like an affordable alternative to Spain! 😍🇪🇸 For dinner, we splurged at Contramar 🐟🍽️—our one fancy meal in the city. The total came to around 2700 pesos (~150 USD), which was reasonable. Here’s the food breakdown: Tostadas de Atún (Tuna) – Absolutely lived up to the hype! The tuna was incredibly tender and fresh 🎯🐟. Tostadas de Callo (Scallop) – Really good too! Soft Shell Crab – Made me smile with every bite 🦀😁. Contramar Fish – It was okay—skipable if you’re not super into fish. We didn’t have a reservation, so we were seated at the bar. While waiting, we struck up a conversation with a friendly African-American woman from New York 📚🗽. She’s a writer promoting her second book and taking a break in Mexico City. As someone who dreams of writing a book one day, I asked for advice on how to start and publish. She shared some great tips—maybe one day I’ll actually begin writing! ✍️❤️ After dinner, we headed to Handshake Speakeasy 🥃🍸 for drinks. On our last night in the city, I finally got to enjoy some cocktails! I ordered two drinks: one with mezcal and one with bourbon. Funny enough—I never actually drank tequila in the tequila capital! 😂🍋 #MexicoCity#Zocalo#TemploMayor#Contramar#FoodieReview#TravelWriterDream#Speakeasy#CDMX#HistoricCenter
