🇲🇽 Puebla de los Ángeles | Mexico's Baroque Jewel
💧Day 3 of my Latin America backpacking trip: A 2-hour bus ride from CDMX brought me to Puebla, one of Mexico's most iconic Spanish colonial cities, where historic architecture remains impeccably preserved. ✨ City of Angels Founded in 1531 as "Puebla de los Ángeles", this was one of the few Spanish settlements in the Americas built from scratch—not atop indigenous ruins. 🏙️ Architectural Harmony Grid-pattern streets resemble Barcelona (minus the diagonals).Polished marble sidewalks evoke Málaga's coastal elegance. 💧Hidden courtyards with Andalusian-style fountains and gardens reveal Moorish influences.A stunning fusion of indigenous, Spanish, and Arabic design. ⚠️ Earthquake Adaptations Most buildings are low and sturdy—except churches! Dozens of Baroque and Neoclassical monasteries, cathedrals, and schools tower over the city, built by Spanish missionaries: ✅Santo Domingo Church (gold-covered Rosary Chapel). Puebla Cathedral (a UNESCO-listed masterpiece) Santuario de la Merced 🌅Pro tip: Many museums offer free Sundays but close Mondays—I missed the Mexican Railway Museum and Casa de Alfeñique! #MexicoTravel #Puebla #ColonialArchitecture
