🇳🇱 That Giant Glass Bowl in Rotterdam is Surprisingly Fun!
Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen 🏛️✨ This giant mirrored bowl in Rotterdam - called Depot - is one of the most fascinating museums I've visited. From the outside, it's already eye-catching with its hundreds of reflective panels forming this massive structure that's clearly a masterpiece of design. But what's inside is even more special. It's not your typical museum - it's more like an art storage facility that shows how museums preserve their collections. The exhibition perspective is truly unique here. For instance, I'd never thought about how oil paintings are stored in museum warehouses until I saw it here. Other types of artworks are stored like regular warehouse inventory - stacked on metal shelves like IKEA furniture. Seeing museum pieces displayed this way creates this surreal feeling, like seeing something precious in the wrong place. Some exhibits even give off "Night at the Museum" vibes... The whole experience somehow makes you feel like you're participating in an annual art inventory check! 😅 There are some "normal" exhibitions too - modern art pieces and a room displaying dozens of masterpieces by Monet, Picasso, and my personal favorite Paul Signac. But even these have a twist: instead of hanging on walls, the paintings are displayed on transparent glass panels. This lets you see the backs of paintings - something we never get to see! Some have collection labels, artists' notes, or even hidden paintings on the reverse side (probably where artists reused canvases). Overall, highly recommended! A truly unique museum experience... 📍 Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen 🚫 Closed Mondays 📌 Museumpark 24, 3015 CX Rotterdam P.S. 🛍️ The museum shop is small but I found a cute Yayoi Kusama eyeglass case - perfect gift! ☕ The rooftop has a 360° observation deck with great views and a nice café. Rotterdam turned out to be more interesting than I expected! Perfect for a half-day or full-day exploration when the weather's nice. #Rotterdam #NetherlandsTravel #MuseumHack #ArtLovers 🎨🇳🇱
