🇳🇿 Invercargill - New Zealand's Southernmost City
During our stay in Queenstown, we kept passing a road sign that read "Invercargill," sparking our curiosity. A quick search revealed it was New Zealand’s southernmost city—so we squeezed in a day trip to check it out! 🚗 3-hour drive from Queenstown 🌟 Must-Visit Spots 🚘 Bill Richardson Transport World 🎫 40 NZD The largest private transport museum in the Southern Hemisphere! Founded by a truck enthusiast turned transport tycoon, this place is a treasure trove of vintage trucks, Ford classics, retro gas pumps, and more. The founder’s daughter added her own flair—think mini cars, RVs, toys, and even a McDonald’s Happy Meal toy collection (with a giant Filet-O-Fish car for photos!). A must for McFans! 🍟 🏍️ Classic Motorcycle Mecca (same family, 300+ rare bikes—combo tickets available. We skipped it due to time.) 📍 Stirling Point Drive 30 mins south to Bluff, home to New Zealand’s iconic "World’s End" signpost (4,810 km to Antarctica!). 🦪 Oyster Cove (Bluff’s Chinese-speaking staff! Bluff oysters (round, local) only available March–August (otherwise Pacific oysters: ½-dozen 40 NZD, dozen 75 NZD). ⚠️ Our take: Surprisingly bitter and briny—like swallowing a mouthful of seawater. Maybe an acquired taste? 🌊 Oreti Beach A *26-km* stretch where you can drive, bike, or ride motorcycles on hard-packed sand (check tides!). Epic sunset spot! 🌅 🏰 19th-Century Architecture The city has charming old buildings (like the water tower), but unless you’re really into history, no need to prioritize. #NewZealand #OffTheBeatenPath #TravelNZ #HiddenGems #RoadTrip
