🇵🇭 Philippines Travel: The 400-Year-Old San Agustin Church of Paoay
We arrived at the majestic San Agustin Church in Paoay City around 6:30 PM on the 22nd. Standing for over 450 years, this UNESCO-listed stone church is one of the oldest and most iconic in the Philippines. (Some say it was rebuilt in 1750.) Its walls—made of stone and sugarcane mortar—have weathered centuries, and flocks of white doves nest atop its towers, adding to its timeless charm. 🌙 Nighttime Exploration Walked around the church (felt like a castle!), soaking in its grandeur under the evening sky. Met a local elder who shared that a 102-year-old (the town’s oldest resident) would be buried here the next day—a major event for the community. She warmly invited us to stay, but we had to continue north. 🍽️ Dinner & Logistics Ate at SPAM Restaurant nearby while replanning our route. Hotel hunt struggle: No availability in Bangui City (1.5 hrs away), and Pugudpud (2 hrs) was nearly sold out. Our driver saved the day—recommending Hannah’s Blu-Bar. Finally checked into Blue Lagos Inn (Ilocos Norte) at 10:20 PM—cozy and comfortable! 📸 Fun Fact: The church houses the remains of St. Augustine and has survived earthquakes, wars, and time itself! #SanAgustinChurch #Paoay #PhilippinesTravel #HistoricChurches #UNESCO #TravelStories #IlocosAdventures 🕊️🌏
