πΈπ¬ Chijmes in Singapore π°
Chijmes, one of the few remaining convents in the world, is one of Singapore's significant historical landmarks located on Victoria Street. It's a fantastic spot for photography. Designed by renowned colonial architect George Coleman, who also designed the former Capitol Building, Chijmes initially consisted only of Caldwell House, which served as the residence of the Senior Municipal Officer's Secretary. Father Beurel purchased the building and surrounding land in 1853 with the intention of establishing a girls' school. St Nicholas Girls' School was located here, alongside an orphanage and a boarding accommodation. Over time, other buildings emerged around Caldwell House, the most notable being the Anglo-French Gothic-style chapel built in 1904. Evolving through the generations, Chijmes stands as one of Singapore's most exquisite religious venues, blending modernity with five new Gothic classical styles. Its old-world charm attracts numerous visitors seeking a unique experience. Its plaster decorative patterns, murals, and Belgian stained glass windows continue to amaze people to this day. πΈ A must-visit spot for photos, highly recommended to enjoy a drink at the bar behind the church at night π₯. π 30 Victoria Street Chijmes, Singapore MRT π: City Hall #BestPhotoSpotsInSingapore #FreeAttractionsInSingapore π·
