🇺🇸 Milwaukee Travel Journal | Day 1/2
Just a 1.5-hour train ride from Chicago—perfect for a weekend trip, even without a car! 🌵 Mitchell Park Domes Three stunning glass domes: rainforest, desert, and show garden. Each is compact but beautifully curated. The rainforest zone is filled with thriving calatheas, alocasias, dendrobiums, cattleyas, and more—so lush and vibrant! 🌿 Bonus story: Took the wrong bus by accident and ended up in West Milwaukee (got off at VA Medical Center). The suburbs were surprisingly scenic—wide grasslands and charming houses! 🛒 Milwaukee Public Market A bustling market with everythingsausages, cheese, olive oil, spices, coffee, bars, seafood stalls… like a mini Reading Terminal Market! The classic sausage was delicious 😋 Loved the outdoor seating—perfect for enjoying the cool autumn breeze 🍂 Also spotted a beer bike! 🍻 Milwaukee is famous for its breweries, so no surprise there! 🏙️ Third Ward → Juneau Town The market is in the Third Ward. My Uber driver (super friendly!) shared that this area was completely abandoned when she was in high school—now it’s a hotspot. She sounded so proud! 😎 Walked north along the river to Juneau Town. Quiet with few pedestrians—probably because it was the weekend. Lots of historic buildings! The Riverwalk has an industrial vibe. You can rent kayaks or take tour boats, but it’s much quieter than Chicago’s river. The water isn’t as clean either—Chicago’s river reversal project really worked! 📚 Milwaukee Public Library The library is in a livelier area with a mix of new and beautifully preserved old architecture. Inside, besides books, there are interesting exhibits—like this historic lighthouse lamp🏮 Also spotted some huge murals in the area—NBA fans, recognize this guy? 🏀 🚌 Transportation Notes Got around mainly by bus—very convenient and frequent! Felt safe on buses and in downtown, but be cautious in near-downtown areas. The bus stop near the Domes (Route 18) felt a bit sketchy, but other areas were fine. #Milwaukee #SoloTravel #WeekendGetaway #TravelWisconsin #USATravel #RestaurantRecommendations #DateNightSpot #VibeDining #Milwaukee #Wisconsin
