🏴 Taking Your Scottish Cuisine Game to the Next Level
When you’re in Scotland, you’ve got to try some traditional dishes. It’s all about the experience, and their service and ambiance are top-notch. The taste is a bit of a 50/50—some dishes hit the spot, while others might not suit everyone’s palate. 📍 Howies Restaurant 1️⃣ 29 Waterloo Pl, Edinburgh EH1 3BQ (at the foot of Calton Hill) 2️⃣ 10-14 Victoria St, Edinburgh EH1 2HG 📜 MENU 🍽️ STARTERS Award-winning traditional haggis Haggis is a must-try for its traditional Scottish flavor. Their version is quite good, with the liver and other parts paired nicely with sweet pepper purée and mashed potatoes. 🍽️ MAINS 1️⃣ Slow braised casserole of the day Beef stew—average, possibly made with red wine, I’d guess. 2️⃣ Grilled haunch of Glen Lyon venison The venison wasn’t particularly impressive, to be honest. It’s worth a try, but we also added the +£9 set, which included the delicious ham hock croquette (see photo 6). 3️⃣ Catch of the day The fresh fish was quite good. It’s hard to find a restaurant that messes up fried fish. We also added the +£7 set, which included smoked salmon on bread with white sauce—a great combination. ₤ £25-35 The price range is quite flexible. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is great. It feels like a high-end dining experience. The ingredients are fresh, not overly saucy, and not greasy. Definitely worth a try. 🕑 12:00-14:30 and 17:30-22:30 Remember to book in advance! It gets fully booked, especially during holidays. Without a reservation, there’s a good chance you’ll make a trip for nothing. Also, don’t mix up the two locations. #Scotland #UK #Edinburgh #UniversityOfEdinburgh #EdinburghStudentLife #EdinburghTravel #EdinburghFood #EdinburghEats #ScottishCuisine #EdinburghScottishFood #ScottishTravel #ScottishDishes #ScottishLocalFood #ScottishTourism #MustTryScottishDishes #TravelBig
