πΈπΊπΏπ The name Itsukushima literally means "Island of Worship," and since ancient times, πΈπΊπΏπ the island itself has been revered as a deity. The mysterious Itsukushima Shrine, built over water, was designated a World Heritage site in 1996. π πΈπΊπΏπ In front of Itsukushima Shrine lies the azure sea, while behind it stands the green of Mount Misen's virgin forest and the vermillion of the shrine, making it one of the "Three Views of Japan" along with Matsushima and Amanohashidate. π²π πΈπΊπΏπ The high platform in front of the main hall is known as one of Japan's "Three Great Stages," the others being the stone stage of Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka and the Four Heavenly Kings Temple. π― πΈπΊπΏπ Itsukushima Shrine is the only shrine in Japan built where the tidal expansion and recession occur far away, featuring both the shrine and the great torii gate. πποΈ #HiroshimaπΈπΊπΏπ
