Overview of the Reconstruction of the World Trade Center Site in New York π ππΈ On September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York were destroyed in a terrorist attack. Afterward, the New York government began a reconstruction plan. In 2003, the "Memory Foundations" proposal by Studio Daniel Libeskind was selected as the master plan for the site. ππΈThe plan includes five skyscrapers, a memorial, a museum, a transportation hub, and a performing arts center. πΈ 9/11 National Memorial & Museum β Opened in 2011 (Memorial Plaza), 2014 (Museum) Design: Michael Arad, Peter Walker, Davis Brody Bond, SnΓΈhetta The site where the Twin Towers collapsed has been turned into a memorial β two large pools recessed into the ground, with water quietly flowing. ππΈ The names of all the victims are inscribed on the walls surrounding the pools. On September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack, the memorial was officially opened. #NewYork π
