A Day in Durban, South Africa
๐ On Sunday, January 28, 2024, at around 7 a.m., our cruise ship slowly approached Durban amid strong winds and waves. A pilot was airlifted by helicopter to guide us in, and by 9 a.m., we had docked at Durban Port. A lively local dance team welcomed us with energetic, spirited performances.๐๐ ๐ By 9:40 a.m., we had cleared customs and boarded a tour bus to begin our day of exploration. Durban, located in South Africaโs KwaZulu-Natal Province, is known as eThekwini in Zulu, meaning "at the harbor." With a population of 3 million, itโs often called "Africaโs Best Managed City" and is a renowned "International Convention Capital." As our bus entered the city, we passed by landmarks like: ๐ Vasco da Gama Clock ๐ King Dinuzulu Statue ๐ The grand Durban Club and Yacht Club We then strolled through the Victoria Street Market, filled with local spices and an array of souvenirs. Next, we drove past: Cato Square ๐ Durban City Hall (over a century old) ๐ Local History Museum and Post Office and Durban Art Gallery ๐ Old Revenue Building and Reserve Bank ๐ At Currie Road Viewpoint, a small hilltop, we stopped to take photos and admire panoramic city views. Later, we wandered leisurely through the Durban Botanic Gardens, marveling at exotic local flora. A photo stop at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium followed.๐โจ Finally, our bus whisked us past golden beaches, lush palm trees, and the deep blue oceanโฆ before we returned to the port.โบ๏ธ #Durban #SouthAfrica #TravelDiaries #CruiseAdventures
