Get ready to chugga chugga your way back in time—the city’s most beloved fleet of vintage buses is pulling into Brooklyn Bridge Park this fall for the 2025 Bus Festival, and it’s completely free to attend. Hosted by the New York Transit Museum and MTA New York City Transit, the one-day celebration on Sunday, September 21st is your chance to step aboard decades of transit history, with the Manhattan skyline as your photo-perfect backdrop. This year, the festival isn’t just about classics—it’s also welcoming special surprise guest vehicles, rare favorites that will make even seasoned transit fans do a double take. What You’ll See at the 2025 Bus Festival ---------------------------------------- Since 1976, the New York Transit Museum has been preserving and sharing the stories of NYC mass transportation —from the tunnel workers who built the subway over a century ago to the cutting-edge designs of a system that never sleeps. The Bus Festival brings that history to life in the most hands-on way possible. At the free one-day event, visitors can: * Climb aboard iconic buses spanning more than 90 years of NYC history * Explore the evolution of the city’s transit fleet * Join hands-on activities for all ages * Meet the people who keep NYC moving every single day And, of course, you can snap incredible photos of vintage vehicles parked against one of the most famous skylines in the world. Meet this year’s vintage fleet ------------------------------ This year’s sixth annual festival features four vintage buses representing more than 90-years-worth of NYC transit history. Some old-timers you can expect to see include: Betsy (Bus #1263) – 1931 * Part of Fifth Avenue Coach’s “1200 series”—a fleet of 100 Yellow Coach “Z-type” buses manufactured in 1930 Bus #3100 – 1956 * The first air-conditioned bus in the U.S., serving Fifth Avenue and M4 & M5 routes in Manhattan between 1958 and 1968 Bus #4727 – 1969 * Marked a shift from the long-standing tradition of operating only GMC buses in the Bronx Bus #5227 – 1971 * Updated buses that featured hard, blue lengthwise seating and were the last model in the NYCT fleet not equipped with a wheelchair lift Once you’re done checking out the fleet, be sure to head to the New York Transit Museum Store pop-up shop for transit-themed toys and gifts, including model buses, books, and more.
