A Free Oktoberfest Party With Live Music And Games Is Coming To Downtown San Francisco
San Francisco’s first entertainment zone debuted almost a year ago, becoming the state’s first area to allow to-go beverages. Since then, the block has hosted numerous successful block parties, most recently a Valkyries watch party on Friday evening. Now, one year after the entertainment zone’s debut, the area will once again host an exciting Oktoberfest event. The block party, which will feature food, drinks, and live entertainment, is scheduled for Friday, September 19, from 2 to 10 p.m . on Front Street. As usual, local bars Schreoders, Harringtons, and Royal Exchange will participate, with themed food and drink specials for the event. The Oktoberfest celebration started at Schroeders, the city’s oldest beer hall, and has since grown into a massive block party with the introduction of the entertainment zone. > “Last year’s Oktoberfest on Front was the biggest event in Schroeder’s 130-year history — drawing twice the crowd we usually see for major events like Oktoberfest and St. Patrick’s Day,” said Andrew Chun, Schroeder’s Managing Partner . “Being part of California’s first Entertainment Zone has helped us bring people back downtown in a big way, and we’re proud to keep writing this new chapter for the neighborhood alongside our neighbors and broader San Francisco community.” Since it first opened in September 2024, the Front Street entertainment zone has hosted 13 events, drawing over 27,000 people in total. Attendees can expect themed games like ax-throwing and beer chugging, as well as live performances from Ladyhosen and Pop Rocks. You can also expect plenty of beer, with over 70 options on tap. Lederhosen and dirndls are encouraged for attendees, and you can even get an Alpine hat with the purchase of food or drink from the participating bars. > “Royal Exchange has been part of the downtown fabric for decades, and it’s been amazing to see a renewed energy and sense of community take root here,” said Mike O’Brien, owner of Royal Exchange . “Being part of the Entertainment Zone — and participating in lively, inclusive events like Oktoberfest on Front — has helped reconnect us with longtime regulars and welcome in new faces. It’s a reminder that downtown can still be a destination where people want to gather, celebrate, and make memories.” The free Oktoberfest party on Front Street is back on September 19 from 2 to 10 pm .
